Wednesday

Good day all.

I need more time.

I'm trying to work extra hours to make up for being out of the office most of the day tomorrow and all day Friday.

But I have writing group tonight until 9.  And I'm the head of it, so I can't skip it.  I might be able to get away with leaving early.

But I have to get ready for the big presentation I have tomorrow morning.

But I also need to pack to leave town for the funeral.  I don't know if I have a pair of stockings that doesn't have any runs.  I wish I had time to stop by Kmart to pick up the ones I like.  I'm also out of shampoo.

I'll also need to shave, especially if I end up just skipping the stockings.

And tomorrow I'll wear black pants and a black shirt and put my company sweater on over it.  My presentation is at 11:15, and I should be able to get out of there by noon.  I'll switch my company sweater to a nice black sweater, and we'll leave town for the 4 hour drive.

The visitation is from 2-5, Rosary service at 4 (I've never been to a Catholic funeral, I don't know what that is), and visitation again from 6-8.  Our hope is to get there before 5 so that we can do dinner with family and go back to the visitation with them.  I don't know what we'll do afterwards, there could be drinks involved.

But we're staying at my mom's.  I hope we get back before they go to bed, so we can at least see them since we're sleeping at their house and all.  The funeral is at noon on Friday, and we plan to drive back home afterwards.

I need more time.

Sounds like you need a couple more Mz's to get to it all.

We never did get a call from the tax gals yesterday. I HOPE that they went ahead and e-filed for us and it was just late so they are going to have us come in and sign the form today or tomorrow. I really don't know what is going on. Maybe it's time for new tax gals.

Meanwhile . . . its just another day in paradise.

I agree Web, unless they're normally really good and something abnormal happened this year, that's skirting the line too much. They're not the ones that would need to pay the late fees and penalties. Didn't you have to file an extension last year too?

No, last year, they were done two days before the due date.

We've only ever filed an extension once and that was on Mrs Web's mom's return, after she died. We had to wait for some things to get finalized.

Part of the frustration for me is what they charge us. Maybe its the same everywhere, but they charge a base price plus so much per page. With two businesses, the pages add up, but on many of those pages, there is just one or two lines of info entered. Plus, their rates go up a significant amount each year. I think they charged us $400 last year. I think I could almost do it myself by using the previous year as an example, but I have no clue how to figure the depreciation on the wood shop side.

From when I worked in a tax place, for personal and business taxes all together, the $400 sounds about right.

Permanent State of Confusion

Morning all. For the first time in a long time I had a good night's sleep. I could still use a nap but I didn't toss and turn or get up every couple of hours. I am looking forward to Friday being an extra sleep in day. Last night it was nice to be in my house shortly after 7pm instead of leaving the office then.

I do think it is a bad sign that it is only April and I have to water my lawn to save it.

I agree Web, that $400 is about right. Definitely base price plus per page. How is your depreciation calculation run now? Do you have a program, it is built into your bookeeping software or do your tax girls calculate it? However, if for some reason they filed it late and you owe interest and penalties, you better tell them that they are paying them.

Take one step at a time Mz. You know the saying - the hurrier I go, the behinder I get. If you try to cram it all in you may not get to bed at a reasonable hour. I am Catholic but don't ever remember there being a Rosary service before a funeral. Usually you have a viewing the night before, possibly some viewing time before mass, mass and then burial. It can make for a long, rough couple of days.

Yay for sleep, Fuzzy! I'm so happy to hear that the passing of tax day finally reduces your stress.

I looked it up online. Apparently the Rosary service is where everyone gets together to recite the prayers on the rosary. Since we'll probably be showing up around 4:30, I hope it'll be over by then.

I also googled the funeral service itself and what I should do during it. Now that I've brushed up on my etiquette, I'm feeling a bit better, but still nervous. And Brian is not strong in the etiquette department. I have to keep reminding myself that it's his family, and whatever he does will not embarrass me in this case. It's his family, they know what he's like. It's his family...

That's good to know that the fee is "normal". We are pretty organized, we're not a "shoebox full of receipts" kind of client. Basically all they do is plug the numbers we give them into the right boxes.

The tax gals have always figured the depreciation. I think the only thing still on the list is the building itself.

Many years ago, one of my college roommates got married. I had been to a couple Catholic weddings before where I didn't really know what was going on. At this one, the priest said what was going to happen and a very brief "why" it was happening or what the action symbolized. I thought that was kind of neat the way he did it. It certainly helped to take the "mystery" out of it.

Hello all,

MZ, this is the first time I stopped on the forum, so I just read up about the death in your family. Sorry for your loss. The Catholic ceremonies certainly can seem strange to someone not familiar with it, but the funerals are fairly straight forward usually.

I'm sort of surprised that they're having a rosary. My family is very large and very traditional Catholic and we've never done a rosary at one of our funerals. Maybe it was something she wanted though.

I hope it all goes ok or you.

My last remaining grandparent, the one with Alzheimer's that lives with my Mom was diagnosed with hat appears to be a very aggressive cancer about two weeks ago. I'm actually here watching her now so my Mom could go to work. It's been disturbing how quickly her health seems to have nose-dived.

Getting old SUCKS!

I hope everyone has a good day!
