RE: The (somewhat) Daily Check Ins of 2013

I am here. I am doing work. I don't like it. But I am doing it. Whatever.

Good day, all. Happy Thursday. The sun is shining here again, which is nice. Made for a much more pleasant drive into work today. Still didn't really want to get out of the bed, but now that I've been at work a while I actually do feel more awake.

Not sure how long the wakefulness will last though. It is not really busy around here, so much so that the boss has even been hitting the indoor putting green by his desk. Pretty sad when he actually has time to use that bad boy. The afternoon is starting to look a bit ominous on the construction front. I just walked through the door hole a bit ago and saw a dude right on the other side setting up to run some power tools. Wondering if he is going to reinstall the door frame that they installed earlier in the week, then uninstalled the next day. At least it appears that the noise level might be sufficient to sustain wakefulness. Ah well.. T-minus 9 workdays til vacation.

Hope everybody has a great day.

Howdy.

The cold snap is breaking. It's pretty nice today.

I did my annual washing of the office windows. I always like to do that after bug season is over so they can stay nice and clean until next spring now.

Good afternoon, all. It is a bit warmer here today. My supervisor was hassling me yesterday for my stand on working from home because the temps were in the single digits. First thing he says to me when I walk into the staff meeting today was, "So, I guess it warmed up enough for you to leave the house, huh?" I said, "Apparently so. It is the real me, not Little Man carrying around the Fathead of Michele." Everybody found it a) pretty amusing and b) a likely scenario that Little Man would have a Fathead of Michele.

So not much else going on today. Construction wise, it appears as though 2 of the 4 doors for the DMZ have been somewhat installed. The wood part is there anyway. No glass. One has a handle, but not the electronics that will actually enable the locking mechanism. I can't believe this is taking so long to accomplish. T-4 workdays left this month.

Ah well... have a great rest of the day.

Good mornin'.

We are talking about adding some stage front lighting at church so I've been learning the in's and out's of DMX lighting control. It's pretty neat how this DMX stuff works. Before this, I had NO idea how much work goes into an even simple lighting scene ahead of time. Everything has to pretty much already be pre configured into scenes. There could not be much live editing beyond basic fading.

I have a friend who specializes in event lighting. It's really different from what I remember doing in tech theater at school. It's all on his computer, and yeah, I think he sets it all up beforehand and just makes sure it hits the cues during.

Good day, all! It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood til I got to the office this morning. Heard that my primary customer made the news for a massive outage that occurred because someone had a bad maintenance activity last night and the result was a massive, multi-state outage. On the up side, it was not my maintenance activity.

Pretty cool about the lighting, Web. I bet there is a whole lot that goe into something like that. Light effects are a huge part of stage presentation, so it makes sense that a lot of forethought would have to go into it. Good luck with all that.

We are having the office Thanksgiving lunch today. Lots of good eats for those wanting to chow down. I'm still being good on my diet for the most part. I'm deciding if I'm going to bother with a dessert. I didn't get to the gym last night, and probably won't make it tonight for other committments.

Anyhoo... hope everybody has a great day.

We're not getting too crazy with the theatrics. The main thing is to get some light on the front of speakers. I just feel like if we're going to do it, we just as well make it so we can do some cool stuff too, if the need arises.

The original lighting design is just a few can lights in the ceiling over the stage. You don't notice it so much live, but on our video, the tops of the speakers heads are bright and the faces are dark. Not a well thought out plan.

Afternoon all. It is Friday. I like that. My boss was here for three days so I am all out of sorts and behind on month end stuff. The weather has been nicer yertserday and today. I think it is supposed to continue through until Monday. As much as I would like to boycott the holiday season. I guess I should think about gifts for the kids and of course, the big kid. Oh well, everyone have a nice afternoon and an even better weekend.

Hey there.

I'm home chillin' with the puppy today. Not feeling good. Some kind of intestinal thing going on. Ugh.

Feeling better today. The fever and headache are gone, but I'm still not 100% in the intestinal area.

I came to the office today instead of "working" from the recliner. A guy can only watch so many Lifetime movies before he's ready to get back to work.

Ooh, yeah, that might actually impede healing.

Day 1 back from vacation: Spent 30 minutes sorting through (okay, mostly deleting) e-mails. Looked into the 10 or so that were actually work related items which actually come down to 2 things I need to do, both are night time work functions I will do this week. Not much else going on. On the up side, there are only 9 more workdays this year.

Day 2 back from vacation: No, I don't mind at all working every night this week. It's all good by me.

Aside from that, it has been a bit since I updated you all on the ridiculous saga that is getting my office building officially divided, so here goes... We now have actual doors on all 4 hallways. Badge readers on our customer's side of the building have been fully functional for some time now, they still have yet to be installed on our side of the building. The main lobby security system has been converted back over to our customer's security system. This does not present me a problem as I have security badges for both systems... which makes it functionally irrelevant that they have badge readers on the doors to their side of the building, cuz my card on their security network is good for 95% of the campus. As the badge readers have yet to be installed on my company's side, we still have a security guard who is henceforth known as "Broseph the Badge Reader", regardless of gender, age, ethnicity... because it is rarely the same person day to day. Apparently while I was out, management noted the fact that Broseph can only see part of the DMZ from his vantage point, so they decided to rectify the lack of Broseph-ness on the other door by putting up a sign that reads "Please use the other door." Additionally, some thoughful individual used a wide rubber strip of some sort to prop that door open, apparently to keep it from slamming shut when the scofflaws (such as myself) use that door anyway. None of this seems to phase the Broseph of the day for today. He has been totally engrossed in his phone all day long, even removing himself to the small conference room next to his badge reader station when building occupants are standing about having loud conversations in the DMZ. This Bud's for you Broseph the Badge Reader! We appreciate your dedication to your duties!!

8 more work days left this year.

Hi all. I've been occupied so I haven't been in much. Trying to squeeze alot of stuff in by the end of the year, plus the time off. Use it or lose it. I had a three day work week last week. Four the week before. This week is four work days. Unlike Mema, I have 12 more work days this year.

I don't think they do. Yesterday's Broseph planned ahead a bit and brought his laptop. Spent the majority of the day watching action movies. Lee and I were speculating that perhaps he moved on to another genre when we found him sitting in the little conference room off to the side later in the afternoon.   For a refreshing change of pace, today's Broseph appears to be Mr. Vigilant! He actually bothers to look at the folk walking up to the door.

The construction project itself meandered another half step forward yesterday. Lots of drilling and loud conversation resulted in the installation of the actual badge reader electronics. Of course they still aren't functional. Looks like a similar setup to what used to happen at the lobby entries downstairs in that there is the reader and a keypad. One has to enter a passcode in addition to scanning the badge after regular business hours. Guessing it will be another couple months before it all becomes functional. Oddly enough, this added level of security was at the behest of my company. One would think that given this fact, our stuff would have been done already.

I just realized I haven't stopped in here for a while.

Now I see it's been a week since the last post. Sadly, it looks like even us last few diehards are headed toward the path of those many before us.

I hear ya! This has been a long, long day. Still waiting on the new projects to start rolling in, but I guess we gotta wait on the budgets to get approved. Meanwhile, there's just not a lot going on at the office. I really hope things pick up soon.
