Finally Friday!

I thought since so many folks have been back in the forum lately I'd go old school and start a daily thread.

AND, I'm FIRST!!!

Woo Hoo!  (No, not you Woo Hoo.  I was merely expressing my excitement at being first by yelling "Woo-Hoo".)

Today I have to finish filling out my application for a part-time job with the city.  I'm a little a nervous about it.  I have a person on the inside, so as long as I do well on the written test and the typing test I should get an interview and have a good shot at the job.  As for the typing, they don't ask for much. They only expect you to be able to type 35words per minute. Last time I tested myself I was closer to 90.

The reason I'm nervous is that I may be biting off a bit more than I can chew.  The job is 30 hours a week.  Combined with my other job that would be 67.5 hours a week and would split my sleep into two parts Tuesday through Friday. It's been quite a while since I pushed myself that hard.  Not sure how I'd handle it.

But, desperate times call for desperate measures.

Okay, carry-on FFRiends!

Wow. An additional 30 hours JR? That sounds like so much. Good luck with it.

I am glad Friday is here. The weather is nice (for today anyway) and I am looking forward to sleep in day tomorrow. I am not looking forward to going to a viewing tonight. We will be leaving after work. Unfortunately it is a ride. So it kind of finished the evening. I hope to be home by 9pm.

Okay, work on. I have to go schedule the tax payments that are due on Monday.

Morning all! I am very happy it's Friday! I don't have any plans other than dragging myself to the basement and working out. I've been slacking so bad. cry

Bella cried almost all night before bed. The only time she didn't cry was if she was in my lap. I think she was looking for her grandma. She left for Battle Creek and won't be back until Sat night.

JR, please be careful with the 2nd job thing. We did that for awhile and that really took a toll on our health. In the end it wasn't worth it.

OMG, we have enough people to actually start a thread for the day! This is freaking awesome!

(Speaking of, has everyone here heard of the thrift shop song? If not:)
(it sounds a bit rappy, but stick with it)

(My stepdad has that deer sweatshirt.)

At any rate, TGIFF.  I've got a busy weekend ahead of me.  Turkish bellydancing workshop right after work tonight, going to see Star Trek later, IU Cinema is playing The Shining tomorrow (I've never seen it in a theater), tomorrow night I can either see a turkish band with a belly dancer or go to a burlesque show with belly dancers.  The burlesque is at "my" bar, so that's where I'll probably go.  I also have stuff I need to do at home, moving stuff out of rooms to get ready to have the carpets cleaned.

Wow JR, that's a lot of hours!  How long do you plan to do both?  Are you eventually going to shift more focus to the day job?

Mz, I've heard the song but i didn't really pay much attention to it. I like the music and I like the black guy's voice. I know I've heard another song by them. I think it's used in a commercial. It's says something about "this is the moment" but it's called "Can't Hold Us"

Hope you are having a good Friday!

It's a sad day next door here at the office. My neighbor's live-in lady friend lost a son to a motorcycle accident Monday night. He was a 2001 graduate so that should make him about 31-32 years old. The funeral is today. She lost her other son to an ATV accident when he was only 15.

I have to participate in a wedding tomorrow. A girl that grew up in our church is getting married and she's asked us to play a couple songs. She also wants it live broadcast for the family that can't make it here in person.

Tomorrow will be the end of week #2 since I got the grass planted. We have areas of thick sprouts coming up and areas were there are NO signs of new growth. I'll keep watering and hopefully the rest of the seed will take off.

It's supposed to be about 90 degrees for a high today. The rain missed us (again).

Wow, how sad Web. And man, funeral and a wedding in the same weekend. You're going to be exhausted, at least emotionally.

Nah, emotionally, neither will effect me much.

I'm not going to the funeral. I barely know her (or even the neighbor). Yes, it's sad that we lost a young man to an accident like that, but I have no emotional connection to him or them, or either family, really. I mainly just know her from where she's worked around town, news of the loss of the other son, etc.

Even to me, the wedding is more just a job to help with. The girl getting married is a daughter to one of the members of our "band" but I've had little to do with her other than seeing her grow up over the years. I bet she never said more than two words to me in all those years, but when she needed help with the wedding stuff, she was suddenly my best long-lost friend. No big deal, that's normal for kids. This fall, they are both leaving for teaching jobs in Texas.

One of my best memories of this girl was from about 2000 when Mrs Web and I were still helping with the youth group. We took 21 students to Kentucky on a mission's trip to work a week at a camp. This girl has two brother's and a sister who were all old enough to go, but she is the youngest and she couldn't go. That meant she was without her three siblings for a week. When we got back home, she was with her mom to pick up the other kids and she missed her brothers and sister so much, she was just shaking and crying because she was so happy to have them back home. That was kind of cool to see how much she missed them.

So yeah, I really have nothing to do with the funeral and the wedding will just be playing two songs and "working" the video. I didn't even get an actual invitation to the wedding, just and invite to help make it happen.

Although sad, it's good that you don't have to go to the funeral.

I think I tend to take on the emotions of the people around me. Even if I don't know anyone at a wedding or funeral, it would still wring me out. I wouldn't cry or anything, but when I got away from the crowd, I would just feel emotionally spent.

Yeah . . . all this week every time I've come or gone, I go by the neighbors house and see extra cars and people around the house which has been a reminder of what they are going through. I've heard that when she lost her first son, she went into a very deep depression for quite some time. I feel for her in knowing that she has to go through this all over again a 2nd time.

The neighbor was feeding the horse right out behind the shop here when I came in this morning. I talked to him for a few minutes. He said she's handling it pretty well right now because she has been estranged from this son for a few years and hasn't even talked to him. The neighbor said he's never even met this son and they have been together a couple years now. But, like the neighbor said "That is making this easier now, but I think the worst is yet to come once the regrets start hitting her."

That poor lady! It's always hard when someone goes before their children and to have that happen twice. cry

I don't think we are doing anything major with our lawn this year. It does need a lot of holes filled in and the dandelion population is ridiculous this year! furious

For whatever reason I am swamped today. This is not how my Friday is supposed to go. no

I think I will be at least having one drink today. I am just not a happy Woo today. If this continues I'm probably seriously going to pester the boss (after our big inspection in June) about getting my own space. I've put up with this department that I am not apart of for long enough. A coworker got her own office so she didn't have to deal with that department. Let that whole department be all together and free to bicker among themselves. And I can heat/cool my area as I please without people thinking they have rank over everyone else.

Drat. I hoped to get in here for awhile today but sleep won out. Doesn't bode well for the second job, does it?

I forgot to mention that the job is only 8 months a year, so that's kind of cool. For four months I'd go back to just one job. And I kind of hope that getting a foot in the door would open up the possibility of going full time at some point so I could dump my night job.

MZ, I'm like you, I'm a bit of an emotional sponge. I can get choked up watching the news and seeing somebody cry because their loved one died, or their house burned down, etc.

Woo, you're probably not a happy Woo because you've been denying yourself your Skittles. Taste the rainbow! (in moderation )

Fuzzy, I may have missed something. You have a viewing to go to? Do you mean a funeral viewing?

Riggs, how are you ever going to manage? no But at least you have a plan.

I think I am beyond a Skittle cure. Pretty sure alcohol is required tonight.

8 months, so is it only the school year then? Hopefully it does work out to a full time gig.

Actually the poopy part of it is it's the summer months. I'd be off from November 1 through February 28.

It's for the department of Neighborhood Services, so they don't have as much to do during the winter months. But that's actually ok, because I enjoy the holidays too much to be working 15 hour days during Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, etc.

Well, next week you'll all get to see first hand if I can handle it.

Before I get too deep in the process I figured I'd test the sleeping pattern. So next week I'll go to bed at 5:30 AM and get up at 9:30 AM, then sleep again from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. If it seems like just too much I'll withdraw and start looking for a different part time job.

A guy that we used to work with (they "eliminated" his position last year) his father passed. I don't want to go to Mass tomorrow. I don't belong there as I didn't really know his father. So a few of us are going to the viewing tonight as support for him. Unfortunately in os NJ. And with the traffic it will be a minimum of an hour ride to get over there. The ride back should be better, but then I still have to go home from the office.

Good afternoon, all! I am definitely in the "TGIF!!" crowd. Today has been SUPER busy. I really didn't see it going that way, but it sure did and right from the jump. I've been here at my desk for 30 solid minutes and that is the most I have been here since I got here. On the up side, I was told today that my temporary assignment in the 911 group officially ends on on Monday. I have some testing to do that just sprang up today, but after that I'm back full time in my actual gig. That made me very happy. The down side to that is I'm about to get my head kicked in from the workload on the big project that is bringing me back. I've already been trying to get a little of that going today but it has been tough with everything else going on.

This weekend is most definitely starting with a few drinks after work. Some of the contractors in the 911 group are going with me. It should be fun. Tomorrow I will be up and at it early with hauling some dirt to put in around the foundation of my house where the porch is going to go. Sometime thereafter I will be driving down to Clinton, MO to check on the DIL and help out there. Not sure if I will go Saturday and stay the night, but I might.

Bummer about the neighbor's loss, Web. Even if they weren't getting along, it has to be pretty darn hard to lose your child.

Woo.. I can't even think about trying to work out today. I've had plenty of cardio already since I have been running around between the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors of my building today. I work on 3, but the guy I have been working with the most is on the other side of my floor. Seriously wish I had worn my tennis shoes today.

Mz... I do that too. Can't help it.

Fuzzy, I would say have a good time, but that really doesn't happen in this case. I hope the rest of your weekend improves.

JR... good luck with the second job. Those are some steep hours. I hope it all works out well for you.

Friday on, everybody. I have an hour left so I need to try to get the thing I started on this morning done.

Tuesday through Friday no, there wouldn't be.  BUT both jobs are pretty low impact.  I wouldn't be exhausted from either of them.  And at least I'd have a clean 48 hour weekend every week.

Plus, I get a gob of vacation at Marquette now, and they're very flexible with it.  I could actually take for example every single Wednesday off for five months if I wanted to.  That would give me a break in the middle of the week.

Still, I know it would be rough.  Man, the opportunity to pay off my bills and finally start building some savings again is just soooooo tantalizing.

Ah, so you're just going to support him, that's nice.  I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

I don't think I could do that.  I go a bit nuts without my ME time.

It is a tough choice, but reducing your financial concerns is a good plan. I made several hard choices right at the first of the year so that I could pay off a big chunk of my bills. I hated what I had to do to make it happen, but at this juncture I'm glad I did. I'm not nearly as stressed as I was.

Hey... they finally told me earlier today what my actual salary is. Apparently they are actually giving me a raise. More than what I expected it would be too. I might actually notice the back pay on my next check.

Yeah the workout didn't happen on Friday. Neither did the drink. however I worked out on Sat &  Sun. DH picked up steaks for Sat and we had sauteed mushrooms and grilled potatoes. I then had me a couple of drinks. smile

Mmmm. I'll have some of that please. i honestly don't eat a lot of steak. I won't buy it unless it is on sale and it can be grilled. Sometimes I don't know why a steak with sauteed onions and mushrooms is so good. And potatoes always go with steak.

I still have to get my propane tank filled. It rained all weekend so I didn't thing about it. Well, I did once, but I was already Home Depot when I looked at the tanks and simply shook my head. I still have charcoal so I am good for now. However, there is a chance of rain and t storms all week. :/
