(CNN) -- Reality TV star and former model Anna Nicole Smith was pronounced dead Thursday after being taken to a Florida hospital after being found unconscious in her hotel room, a law enforcement source with knowledge of the case told CNN.

Smith, 39, collapsed at a south Florida hotel and was taken to a local hospital, according to news reports.

TMZ.com had reported that Smith collapsed at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida, and was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood just after 2 p.m. ET.

According to reports, Smith was found unresponsive in her hotel room.

Smith was involved in a paternity suit regarding the parentage of her daughter, Danielynn, as well as other disputes, including ones regarding a house she stayed at in the Bahamas around the time she gave birth.

Earlier this week, Smith was included in a class-action lawsuit against a company, TrimSpa, for which she has worked as a spokesperson. TrimSpa makes a product it claims leads to substantial weight loss. The lawsuit alleges the marketing of the product, TrimSpa X32, was false or misleading.

Smith's son, Daniel Wayne Smith, died at age 20 just days after the birth of Smith's daughter. Pathologist Cyril Wecht said a lethal dose of methadone and antidepressants caused cardiac dysrhythmia, leading to his death.

Anna Nicole Smith died Thursday after collapsing at a hotel and being being rushed to the hospital, one of her lawyers said.

Smith collapsed in her room at the Hard Rock Cafe and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and was rushed to a hospital on Thursday. A Hollywood, Fla., fire department spokesman told MSNBC TV that the actress was unresponsive when the rescue unit arrived on the scene and had been intubated. Smith was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital shortly after 2 p.m. EST and her attorney confirmed that she had died nearly an hour later.

On Tuesday, Smith and the diet products company TrimSpa Inc., for which she is a spokeswoman, were sued in a class-action lawsuit alleging their marketing of a weight loss pill is false or misleading.

Ya know the only two people I feel sorry for in this whole mess is the new baby and the kid's father, whoever it is....she had become a total waste of a human being (in my humble opinion). Bet we find out it was suicide......

damn, what a tragic tumultuous life. A real shame because she seemed like her life was finally getting on track, but then her son died and that was the beginning of the end.

I feel heartbroken for her baby, but at the same time, at least she is now reunited with her son

I couldn't STAND this woman. I thought she was a money-grubbing, self-centered, horrible human being.

BUT, at the same time that I disliked her with such a passion, I felt a certain level of sympathy for her as a human being. She clearly had some serious problems, and I'm sure the death of her son weighed heavily on her.

From start to finish I think the tragedy here is the waste of what life she did have. She had success, if you can call it that, but I doubt she ever truly had happiness.

I blame the attorney who kept suing her for a paternity test DAYS after losing her son.

I remember how my mother was when my older brother died, it took her a good six months before she wasn't at least crying once a day over it. Anna just lost her son but that heartless piece of crap attorney kept going after her ruthlessly instead of realizing that when someone is mourning the loss of a child, you should put your personal vendettas on hold. Well, she's dead now and hopefully that sack of crap will be proven not the father and have to live with himself for what he did to her instead of giving her time to mourn and grieve over the loss of Daniel.

I think her lawyer / husband / baby's father killed her. They say CSI was there (the real one not TV show...LOL) and it may be foul play. Think about all the money that this guy has to gain if she left him $$$ in the will or an inheritance.

Maybe it was all the drinks she had at the casino mixed w/ all the pills she pops. It could be the "Trim Spa", she probably took that too....

Well, at least her son and long lost 89 year old husband will be up in heaven waiting for her to get thru the pearly gates...

The one I feel most sorry for in this situation is the baby girl. It is not her fault who she was born to. Now even Zsa Zsa Gabor's husband is claiming to maybe be the father. Bunch of money grubbing, camera hogging bastages who just want money. What kind of world is that kid going to grow up in where everyone is fighting over money that may or may not belong to her?

As for Anna Nicole herself, she was always a tragic circus of a human being. Now here she is just as much a cartoon character in death as she was in life. I can't imagine being that way. Unfortunately, this is probably the same type of future her daughter will have, assuming she makes it that far.
