Krispy Kreme is debuting a whole wheat glazed doughnut made with 100 percent whole wheat and contains 180 calories. It's available beginning today.

The new whole wheat doughnuts also are available at grocery and convenience stores where Krispy Kreme products are sold.

A former stock market darling, Krispy Kreme stumbled badly three years ago as the company expanded during the height of the low-carbohydrate diet craze.

While sales were slipping, Krispy Kreme executives were busy with sorting out accounting problems. A stock that once traded at more than 50 dollars bottomed out last year at about 4 dollars. The company's board ousted two former executives it concluded were trying to, in its words, "manage earnings" to meet Wall Street expectations.

It's all about the taste.  I like whole-wheat, so if this actually tastes like caramel, and is glazed, it could be really a nice treat as opposed to a regular donut that has no redeeming qualities what-so-ever.
