It is really taking off fast. Some are saying that it will be bigger than MySpace.
It is a networking site, but it is basically what they call "micro blogs". You create an account, and add your friends. You can then post to your "blog" and all your friends can see what you are doing. The maximum post size is 140 characters. You can post to it and read from it directly from the web, with your cellphone and SMS, or via instant messaging.
It looks like it is intended to be more like our "Right Now" thread than a MySpace profile page. Looking at typical posts, its mostly things like "Right now, I'm going to lunch." You can't get too detailed in 140 characters or less.
I just signed up today to see what its about. I think it is a little overwhelmed at the moment as it seems to be running really slow. They've probably grown faster than they expected.
Anyone interested? The home page is at twitter.com. My username is "BrokenBowScott" if you want to try it out and add me as a friend.
Mz and I are playing with it now to see what its all about. It looks like it could be kinda fun if a bunch of friends get involved.
Now that I understand it more, it is as I stated earlier like our "right now" kind of thing. You post what you are doing and your friends get updated. You can set it up to receive updates via the web, text messaging, or I.M. (I.M. is down right now).
If you're interested, go to twitter.com set up an account and add post your username so we can add you as friends.
