We went to see 300 last weekend. It was neat, but not my type of movie.
The storyline is basically, hey look, these guys are fighting, and lookee there, they're fighting again, oh no, now they have to fight... It's about the Spartans going to war with Persia.
The side story about what the queen is doing back home while the king is off fighting is pretty cool, and I wish more of that story had been incorporated in. She's also a female impowerment type character, and I like that sort of thing.
And it is a visual feast for the eyes. A lot of it is CGI, which I usually am not all that thrilled with, but they do it pretty well. They've also got all the colors in this retro type color scheme, which adds an artsy feel to it. And there's plenty of skin. The Spartans are basically running around in underwear and capes, and all the guys are buff. (Though maybe too buff, I wonder how much of the buffness is real.) And the queen wears outfits that I don't see how she even dared to move while wearing.
All in all, I wasn't disappointed that I saw it, and really the queen's story was the saving grace in my book. I'd rate this movie as, "see it in the second run or discount theater." If it weren't for the visual effects, I would've rated it as, "rent the DVD," but I do think it's worth checking out on the big screen.
I am looking forward to seeing this film, I loved Sin City, and this is from the same guy I believe, so thats a must for me. I don't mind all the fighting, that's what I look for in a film.
I went with someone who read the comic, and he loved it. I'm just not into fighting movies. But they did do it well, and if you like fighting movies, you should definitely see it. Like I said, the visual effects are awesome.
