Day Care Center Shut Down On My Street!

I saw this on the news last night and thought "I know that house!" and then they confirmed that it was on my street! furious

Local day care center shut down

Grand Blanc Township owner's husband accused of CSC

WJRT By Cathy Shafran

- (05/03/07)--The state closed down a Grand Blanc Township day care after the husband of the owner was accused of sexually molesting one of the children.

Genesee County's prosecutor says he is investigating the case that all came to light one week ago today.

Parents who have been taking their children to "Manny's House" day care on Porter Road for years say they are shocked by what they are now learning about the day care.

Parents arrived last Thursday to pick up their children when they were told by the day care owner that Manny's House would no longer be open because the state had revoked the license.

What they didn't know was that earlier that day, Grand Blanc Township police were arresting the husband of the day care owner on second degree sexual conduct charges.

"There was an allegation that he fondled a young boy who was at the day care center," said Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton.

"The investigators looked into it and there was probable cause for us to believe it had occurred so we charged him with CSC second degree, which is a 15 year felony."

Jerry Anderson, 61, the man some of the kids lovingly called "Papa," was charged with sexual misconduct, but then was released on a $20,000 bond.

According to those familiar with the case, suspicions about Anderson were raised by one of the day care workers who eventually quit.

It's unclear at this time if there might be more charges.

"The investigation will continue. We will look into any other complaints that we may or may not receive and we will certainly keep our eyes open to whether the are are any other victims," Leyton said.

"Any time a day care that is operated for young children is scandalized, I am deeply concerned as to what may have occurred there."

Some of those who had children at Manny's Place say they are devastated after having entrusted their children to the couple the kids lovingly called "Nana" and "Papa."

They are also concerned because they believe Anderson teaches children at a local church.

We had the exact same thing happen at a daycare here a few years ago.

If he did it, then may his punishment be swift and strong.

After having a friend go through the accused side if this, though, I'm not quite so quick to jump in with the lynch mob. I seems like in theses cases that if you can not prove you are innocent, then you are guilty. For my friend, it was a case of him deciding to leave a cheating whore of a wife. Once he filed the papers, she filed child sexual abuse against him. I know him well enough that he would never do that to a child, but it was his job to prove he didn't. He lost is business in lawyer fees and loss of work because of the bad reputation it got him.

In the case of the daycare here, those that really new the guy believed he was innocent. Those that didn't know him were ready to hang him. Its a tough spot to be in.

yes that's true. I know someone that went thru this as well. She could never harm a child. But in any case, I just don't like it being so close to home.

you are absolutely right, web.  innocent UNTIL proven guilty.  and anyone can be accused out of spite.  or a hug can become misinterpreted as fondling.

if he is a child molester --  well ...  furious

if not, this is a very sad thing for him and his family.

If he's guilty hang him!!

But on the other side too, we had a 93 year old man that was well known in our small town as a kind old guy that would do anything for anyone. His hands used to shake from being a painter all his life. He was walking past the school and helped a little girl put her coat on and his trembling hands brushed her butt. He was found not guilty but it broke his heart and spirit and he died just about a month later. hmm

That's the misfortune of that kind of thing. On one hand, it is great if he's guilty that someone had the courage to speak up and stop this from happening again. On the other hand, if the guy is innocent the damage is done whether he's found guilty or not. I'm glad people have a much better conduit to protect children these days though. This is nothing new, it's just that people were not as well educated about how to look for these problems or how to act upon the issue to do what's right for the kids.

Child testifies in sex assault hearing for husband of day care owner

Posted July 11, 2007 17:35PM

Swiveling in his too-big witness chair, the restless 4-year-old boy with dark hair played with the microphone while fielding uncomfortable questions from adults he did not know.

Papa "touched my pee-pee," he said with coaxing from Genesee County Assistant Prosecutor Michelle Richardson.

"Papa" is what he and other children called Jerry L. Anderson, whose wife, Marsha Anderson, ran Nannie's House day care center, 7377 Porter Road in Grand Blanc Township.

After a preliminary examination Wednesday, Anderson, 61, of Grand Blanc Township, was ordered by Central District Judge David J. Goggins to stand trial on a charge of second-degree criminal sexual conduct, a 15-year felony.

Other witnesses at the hearing included two of Anderson's daughters, who testified their father told them he sexually molested the boy and admitted to being a pedophile.

Anderson, who faces a July 23 circuit court arraignment, remains free on a $20,000 cash bond.

The Journal is not identifying the boy or his mother.

The mother said she took her son, "a typical 4-year-old," to the day care center in September 2005 through April 2007, but stopped when the boy and another person told her of the inappropriate touchings.

The boy said Anderson crawled into bed with him at nap time on a number of occasions and touched his penis under his clothing.

As he testified, the child swiveled in his chair, slouched occasionally, kicked his feet and sometimes just ignored the probing questions.

But he pointed directly at Anderson when asked if he knew him, and called him Papa.

The day care's license was revoked in late April by the office of Children and Adult Licensing, a state bureau overseeing day care centers under the auspices of the state Department of Human Services.

Earlier, Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said officials are investigating other complaints received about the day care.

Man, child molestation cases are so hard. They are hard to deal with emotionally, and then there's always the question of whether the suspect really did it. You always have to wonder if the kid is telling them what happened, or if he's saying what he thinks the adults want to hear.

I wanted to believe that he didn't do it since it is so close to home but I don't think that is the case.

I personally could not handle watching children when I'm older than sixty. Sure, the grandchildren can visit or if they stay by me when my son is out on a special night. I've yet to have g-children or a daughter-in-law but, I should be prepared with my plan.
I spent 14 years as a Cub Scout Leader/Scoutmaster. The boys were between 6-18.
When I hear stories about people in a caregiver, leadership, mentor role doing something inappropriate it freaks me out.

It is a strange world. :(

I get so worried, we have a park with a school right next to it that I eat my lunch at sometimes. The thought always crosses my mind....do they think I'm some wierdo sitting in his vehicle watching the kids play? You just never know about the other guy right next to you though!

If the guy did not do it, I feel sorry for him, because it is always harder to prove you didn't do something monsterous than to be accused of it...

and it will stick with him reguardless of guilt or innocence...

UPDATING:

Man enters plea in sex assault involving child at day care center

Posted by Paul Janczewski | The Flint Journal September 25, 2007 20:26PM

A Grand Blanc Township man pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a child under 13 years old in a case involving a child at his wife's day care center.

Jerry L. Anderson, 61, now faces up to 15 years in prison when he is sentenced Oct. 25.

Genesee Circuit Judge Archie L. Hayman sent Anderson to the Genesee County Jail pending his next court appearance. Anderson had been free on a $20,000 cash bond.

At an earlier court hearing, a boy, 4, testified that "Papa" touched his penis.

"Papa" was what he and other children called Anderson, whose wife ran

House day care center, 7377 Porter Road in Grand Blanc Township.

Other witnesses included two of Anderson's daughters, who testified their father told them he sexually molested the boy and admitted to being a pedophile.

The boy's mother testified she took her son to the day care center from September 2005 through April 2007, but stopped when the boy and another person told her of the inappropriate touching.

The center's license was revoked in late April by the office of Children and Adult Licensing, a state bureau overseeing day care centers under the auspices of the state Department of Human Services.
