I can't believe how stupid the government can be!

Don't they have anything more pressing in the Boston area to try to legislate?

If Bellingham resident Douglas Flavin has his way, all public bathroom doors in Massachusetts will open outward, not inward. The Legislature's Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight reviewed the bill Wednesday. State Rep. James Vallee (D-Franklin) filed the bill on Flavin's behalf. [Think] how easy it would be to prevent germs and disease," Flavin's wife Tracy told BostonNow. "If state residents could open bathroom doors with a knee or elbow instead of a handle."Flavin also claimed it would prevent litter resulting from people protecting their hands with paper towels.A representative for the state Department of Public Safety told the newspaper that the state building code does not specify the direction public bathroom doors must open.

Not worthy of legislation, but I've ALWAYS wondered why it's not that way already.

If I have to pull a bathroom door to get out, I always take my towels to the door and
use them to grab the handle. If they are smart enough to place a trash can by the door,
I open the door then throw the towels in the can . . . . if there's no trash can by the
door, I drop them on the floor.

Yeah but germs on your knee might end up on your hands eventually right?

Well, if you want to get really specific, you would have to look at ALL the things that you touch in a day that carry germs. Yes, it is important to wash your hands, but you can never get rid of all germs. People just need to relax. I think that there are more important things the government needs to worry about.

Personally, I'm not a germ-o-phobe in general, but other people's bodily fluids give me the creeps. As I reach for a public door handle, I can't help but think about the guy just ahead of me that walked across the parking lot with his finger burried in his nose to the first knuckle.

Face it Web, you're surrounded by booger picker germs bleh.gif

That's one thing I need to pay more attention to, expecially when I go to the casino.  Can you imagine how many grubby hands have touched those machines?

Although I must say they are CONSTANTLY wiping them down with some spray bottle and white cloth.  I always assumed it was just to remove fingerprints from the chrome, but maybe that spray is actually anti-bacterial.  I'll have to ask next time I'm there.

I keep an antibacterial spray pen in my purse. (I got it from CVS, but I'd guess they're pretty easy to find.) I don't use it a whole lot, and really tend to use it more when I'm around people with colds than coming out of the bathroom. But I have it in case I need it.

I've always wondered why they didn't open that way also.

And while we're on the subject - those automatic flushing things annoy me. It's nice that you don't have to touch a handle, but they tend to go off at the wrong time! Like when you're just starting or 1/2 way through. It's a big waste of water, and a good way to get wet in a bad way when not suspecting. Anywho, wouldn't it be cool if for future bathrooms they could hook the sensor up to the stall door? When you slide the latch over to open the door would be a good time - you're obviously DONE done, and then you wouldn't get the wasteful surprise flushes.
