Every six months or so I like to take a two or three week break from food shopping and finish absolutely EVERYTHING in the house.
Empty the cupboard, the freezer, etc.
So it's a period of eating some pretty odd meals.
Today I made a package of wheat Rotini, mixed in a few turkey hot dogs, added some italian seasoning and a can of pizza sauce I had left over from a Chef-Boy-Arde pizza kit and that's my lunch and supper.
Surprisingly not bad.
Anybody else follow this clean out the cupboards ritual? Or am I alone?
Oh, I should add that this would be PERFECT with some parmesan cheese sprinked on it, but I have none and as I said, this is a cleaning out project, so I can't go get any
I grew up in a house where we had food stacked from floor to ceiling in the pantry but my Mom would always say we had no food in the house. I'd point to the pantry or the freezer that you couldn't even fit a frozen pizza into and she'd say "I don't know if any of that is any good anymore"
She STILL does that!
I go to her house and try to make a sandwich, I'll pull out the mayo and she'll say "Oh, don't use that, that's old". But when I try to throw it out she insists on putting it back in there!
we are not that bad. My motto is " you wanna try it, go for it." I did that with the girl. She wanted some bagels. I couldn't remember the last time we bought any, but she ate one and didn't get sick .
We had a horrible breakfast event due to some bad pancake/waffle batter!
We at least check the expiration date on mac & cheese now. We do learn-lol
