Long overdue price drop at iTunes

They are now offering a huge selection of lesser known artists full albums for $6.99 each.

This isn't completely obscure stuff.  In fact, Saving Janes first CD is available at that price (or maybe it was $7.99, I don't recall).

So if you hear an artist here that is newer and you like em', you can buy the full album download on iTunes pretty cheap!

Are they selling DRM free MP3 files yet?

I believe they are sir, for .30 extra.

But I don't bother with that.

I just buy the song, burn it onto a re-writable CD and then burn it back into the computer as an MP3.

It's not that much of a hassle to save .30 a song.

Do you notice any loss of quality doing it that way? You're taking the audio of a compressed song and compressing it again. It may not be enough degradation to be noticeable though.

I haven't but I don't have real great quality stuff anyway so maybe I just haven't noticed.

I really haven't web. I usually scan it back in and save it at 360 kb. I know it's still been compressed, but I can tell absolutely no difference.

I have it all set up on a couple of very good systems too. A nice Sony desktop stereo and a panasonic stereo system in the living room.

To be honest, once I've burned the itune onto a CD it sounds every bit as good as a store bought CD.

Thats cool then. I've yet to buy anything from Itunes because of the DRM and being locked into one system. I'm not going to buy music that I can't listen to on WHAT device I want to listen to it with. So for that reason, I'm still buying CD's and ripping them myself.

I've cheated on a few. Rhapsody gives you 25 free listens/month. There's been a few times that I've needed a copy of a song to have to practice with to learn how to play. I just use Audacity to record the song as it is playing from Rhapsody, then save it back as an mp3. I don't feel guilty about that though because almost all of them have been songs that we are playing at church and there, we pay a license to use the music in the service . . . so the artist is getting some money though that.

I buy from iTunes quite a bit. The albums are cheaper than buying in the store.
