We decided to go see my wife's mom this evening rather than going tomorrow after church. No big deal. We got ready and left here about 5:30.
We got into Kearney a little over an hour later and realized there was something going on. Then I remembered it was their annual "Cruise Night" which is pretty cool. People from all over central Nebraska converge on the town and just cruise around showing off their cars. There are hundreds of cool old cars, new fancy cars, and hot rods to watch. People are lined up in lawn chairs along the 1.5 mile cruise pattern just sitting, talking, and having a good time watching the cars go by. There is no real organization to it, just a lot of cruising.
The nursing home is about 5 blocks from Kearney's main downtown area. As we were going in the nursing home, we could hear a band warming up. Then I remembered . . . I got an email from the "OK Sisters" that they were going to be playing there tonight. I could tell it was not them warming up so we went on in and visited with mom-in-law. After the visit, we went to eat and then we got in the cruise line and went through downtown. It still wasn't the Ok Sisters, so we hit WalMart and got the boy a new backpack for school and headed home. We got home about 11:00.
After we got home, I checked for the email and the OK Sisters played from 5:00-7:00. Drat! If we'd been thinking ahead, we could have dropped the boy off at grandpa's, gone two hours earlier, and enjoyed a free, live, OK Sisters concert.
