Do you have a home phone?

I am about to join Cricket- umlimited everything- for $50 a month and get rid of our home phone. I can have the number transferred too! This will be the boy's cell, since the hubby and I already have cell phones.

I am scared not to have a landline, but would be stupid to not cut out paying the landline bill, when the main reason I had it is cause I have a teenager.

But I want to save $50 a month, so we are getting ready to tell AT&T bye!

I, too, only use a cell phone. I don't need a land line for any other reason, so it was just a waste of money.

If it wasn't for DSL, I wouldn't have a land line.

We still have a landlines at home and here at the office.

My wife is too scared to not have a landline phone. I have a year of unlimited Skype calling and free nights and weekends on the cell phone, but I can't get her to use them . . . she always says "this call is important, I need to use the real phone".

I would get rid of the office phone and just use Skype and my cellphone if it wasn't for needing to keep the woodworking business number in the local phone book.

I have a land line.....wife is worried "what if"  and actually during the hurricanes a few years ago (when the cell towers went out) the land line came in handy!

Wow.

I've been thinking of dumping my landline for the last few weeks, but kept putting it off because it just felt weird to think of not having one.

Looks like it's becoming the norm!

First thing tomorrow I'll be calling TDS and tellin' em' to pull the cord!

I'll have to pay a cancellation fee, but I'll still save money over leaving it connected for the remaining 10 months of the contract.

I worry about that too SG, but I figure the savings- $50 a month is worth the hassle if another hurricane comes and we are phoneless for a fw days. Most lines if you leave it plugged in, you can still call 911.

ok I am stupid when it comes to this area. But we have been considering dropping our landline when our promotional period is up. Anyways- if we do, what are my internet choices? I mean certain types require a home phone right?

DSL and dialup use your phone line.

SOME phone companies will let you have DSL without also having regular phone service, some won't. I think the ones that let you have DSL without requiring phone service charge more for it in that case.

Cable internet does not use your landline phone.

Edit to add: Some places offer a wireless internet. That wouldn't need a home phone either, but they do need to put an antenna on your house.
