Elton John wants the internet shut down because it is destroying music.

The 'Candle in the Wind' singer believes cyberspace is stifling creativity
and lowering the standards of popular music.

He told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "The internet has stopped people from
going out and being with each other from creating stuff.

"Instead people sit at home and make their own records, which doesn't bode
well for long-term artistic vision.

"Hopefully the next movement in music will tear down the internet. It would
be great to see the internet shut down for five years and see what sort of
art is produced over that span. I'm sure, as far as music goes, it would be
much more interesting than it is today."

Despite describing himself as a "technophobe", Elton has previously used the
internet to his own advantage.

His 60th birthday concert at New York's Madison Square Garden in March this
year was streamed live over the web.

Elton has also made his entire back catalogue available for digital
download.

However, he remains convinced the internet is responsible for slipping
standards in the music world.

He said: "In the early 70s there were at least ten albums released every
week that were fantastic. Now you're lucky to find ten albums a year of that
quality."

I understand his point.

I mean really . . . a few punks sitting in the basement and recording music into their Apple Power Book that sounds better than some of his stuff. How can that be acceptable?

As an employee of Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Elton John has been the bane of my existence since the 100th Anniversary Celebration. laughing.gif

My personal opinion...he's a knob and needs to learn when to shut it. I say that, of course, with the utmost sincerity.wink

Oh you never heard? For the 100th there was a lot of mystery about who would headline for the concert - an event that went on all day with a big mystery finale performance. Everyone guessed Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, etc. It turned out to be Elton John - poor choice for most Harley riders. He was all annoyed and crabby because a lot of people were leaving in their disappointment - which I suppose I can understand. But he put on a crummy show adn actually came across kinda snooty.

As an employee, people to this day ask me why Harley chose him for the headliner. Like I would know...we didn't know anymore than anyone else about who it would be. I'm pretty sick of that question! furious

He shouldn't be so "technophobe", I believe in equal rights for everyone, basement song writers, and gay people should be allowed to marry to, like he has done.
