Harry Potter books

So I am the last to read them? I have not read much of anything lately, so I am open to read anything. I have the collection because of the boy. They do look like an ez read so I have book 1 and 2 in my carry on bag and 3 in my suitcase. I am bringing cross stitch and the boy's Zune too. So I should be able to be entertained.

Anyway I feel behind the times waiting so long to read the series- hope I like it!

My sister was the one who was the Harry Potter fan, and I wasn't all that eager to read them. I thought they were just more pop culture young adult type books. She finally convinced me to read them. I read the first 4 in a week. Then when the 5th one came out, a coworker wanted someone to talk to it about, so she loaned it to me to read. Then when the 6th one came out, a friend loaned me her copy after she finished it. At that point I felt like I wanted to read all the old ones over again, so I went out and got the box set in paperback, then bought the 6th one when it came out in paperback. But now, I still haven't read the 7th. I don't want to spend the money on the hardcover, but it's hard not to. My friend who loaned me the 6th one has a waiting list of people who want to borrow her 7th! And I'm signed up on the waiting list in the library, but I won't get that for a few months.

I just started reading Harry Potter this week...I had to see why everyone is still so excited about these kids books, and why adults love them as much as kids do. I started the 1st book last week and will finish it tonite. Good read!

I find it amazing when authors can bridge the differences between generations like that. The books are written simply enough that kids can get it and follow the content, but they aren't so simplistic that it is too childish and dull for adults. I find I get into it because it appeals to my childhood imaginings and fascinations...things like flying, dragons, and so on.

That's why I love the books......my imagination can soar while I'm reading them.  I told my girls that I'd love to go to Hogwart's for school!!  I had this image of it in my mind when I read the first book, then when the movie came out, it was almost exactly what I had pictured it to look like.

I am with MZ on this. A friend at US Cellular loaned me the first one and I read it in a week. the he loaned me books 2 and 3 and those were gone within a week. I went and bought book 4 and read it in 5 days and book 5 I bought and read in 3 days. Book 6 I read in 4 days and I had reserved my 7th at Walmart and wound up paying only 17.00 for it. I bought it on Saturday at 8 am and finished it on Tuesday at 1 am. If you want I will send you my 7th biggrin.gif

Thump, if you're serious, I'd love to borrow your 7th! I'm rereading the whole series right now and I'm almost done with the 5th.

I read 1, 2 & 3. I started 4 and got bored and can't even remember if i finished it.
If I start up again I guess I'll go back to 1

The girls have 7 which both have read - Martha once and Rachel about 3 times lol
