I know I'm just a big baby because I have five OTHER computers I can use, like the one I'm on now.

But none of these computers are easy to get to, and I can't do anything else while I'm on them.  

The guy from HP said he was Next Day Fedexing the software I need.  That was on Saturday night.  Because of the long holiday weekend the discs weren't expected to arrive until today.

But now I'm worried they won't even get here today.  The HP site says expected delivery date is Sept. 10!!!  Even though it also says the shipping method is FEDEX NEXT DAY.

It doesn't show a "shipped date" though, so maybe they're not gonna ship em until the 9'th?!?!?

Well, long story short is...

I bought the thing about six weeks ago.  Nicest computer I've ever owned.  Big 400 GB hard drive, 3 GB memory, a 22" monitor with one of those cool swivel screens (so you can read an entire web page on one screen, no scrolling).  It's really loaded.  BUT, it runs on Windows Vista.

Well, Vista is known for compatibility issues, so sure enough half my programs don't work on it.  I think by trying to install programs that wouldn't work I messed up the operating system.

It started to get unstable so I did a recovery, but even that didn't work properly.  A few recovery attempts later and the whole thing just died. 

Now here's the kicker.  You spend a ton of money on a nice computer and these company's are too cheap to include the recovery discs anymore.  The recovery is part of the hard drive.

Well, since I can't access the hard drive anymore that doesn't do me any good!  Plus the DVD backups I made of the recovery files come up saying they're no good!

So now HP is sending me official recovery and Windows Vista discs that my all rights SHOULD JUST BE INCLUDED WITH THE COMPUTER TO BEGIN WITH!!!  angered.gif

And to top it all off I had to talk to "Steve" from the middle east and repeat everything I said FOUR TIMES because he couldn't understand "the english" very well!

Oh, one other thing.

I bought the thing at Sam's Club and would have just returned it after about two weeks of fighting with it, but I think my dog ate the receipt. Either that or she just didn't file it correctly. hmm.gif

I am stayin away from vista! come to think of it, I should have never updated AOL from version 8 either. that was the last time I didn't have problems with it....hmm

Vista has a LOT of cool features. But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone other then my enemies. IT SUCKS!

They released Vista too soon, and nobody has programs that'll run on it. It might be worth ponying up a little extra to get XP, then keep the Vista disks for when it's really ready.

almost all new comps at retail shops are preloaded with vista....


my roomy had to go to an off shop to get a laptop without vista...



can we say "cornering a market"?????

The problem is that the computer is really designed for Vista Home Premium.

It's a TV/PC that has the tuner inside and functions like a DVR. Without the Recovery discs I don't know that everything would work properly, and the recovery discs automatically install Vista. hmm.gif

USUALLY when you buy a computer you get an operating system disc AND a disc full of all the programs the computer was loaded with.

Sometimes they're all on one disc, but when you load it you're given the option of just doing the OS or picking some of the programs to load.

But lately the manufacturers have gone to not including ANY discs and instead sectioning off a tiny part of the hard drive to hold the recovery files. Then they just have one option, RECOVER EVERYTHING.

Of course, if the drive goes bad you're screwed.
