Zeppelin to Reunite, One Night Only

Time to get the Led out, one more time.

The surviving members of Led Zeppelin said Wednesday that they would reunite for a one-off comeback concert in memory of Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones will perform together for the first time in 19 years on Nov. 26 at London's O2 Arena, promoters said. John Bonham's son, Jason, will sit in for his late father on the drums.

"During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord," Plant said. "For us, he was Atlantic Records and remained a close friend and conspirator. This performance stands alone as our tribute to the work and the life of our long standing friend."

Ertegun, who signed the legendary rock band to Atlantic in 1968, died in December at age 83 after falling backstage at a Rolling Stones concert and hitting his head.

In addition to Zeppelin, Pete Townshend, Foreigner, Bill Wyman and Paolo Nutini will perform at the event, which will raise money for the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, a charity founded by the music mogul that provides students with scholarships to universities in the U.S., U.K. and Turkey.

Led Zeppelin broke up after Bonham's death in 1980, with the band members agreeing there was no way to replace the drummer.

"We wish it to be known that the loss of our dear friend and the deep sense of undivided harmony felt by ourselves and our manager, have led us to decide that we could not continue as we were," the band said in a statement at the time.

After disbanding, the members of Zeppelin briefly reunited for a performance at 1985's Live Aid concert in Philadelphia and again in 1988 for Atlantic Records' 40th Anniversary concert, where they were joined by Jason Bonham on drums.

In 1994, Plant and Page teamed up for a hugely successful world tour and subsequently produced a joint live album dubbed Live Quarter. The twosome's decision to work together created tension with John Paul Jones, who was reportedly miffed he was not consulted about the trek ahead of time.

The strained relations between Jones, Page and Plant were evident the following year when the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where Jones created an awkward moment by joking, "Thank you, my friends, for finally remembering my phone number."

Despite inner tensions, rumors about a possible reunion tour have been circulating for years, with speculation heating up again this summer, despite Plant denying as recently as June that such an event would take place.

The singer more or less spoke the truth--there will be no stadium tour, as many had hoped, simply a one-off performance in honor of a departed friend.

The November concert date comes on the heels of the band's scheduled release of the compilation album Mothership on Nov. 13the first Zeppelin album to be made available for digital download.

Zeppelin will also release a reissue of the soundtrack to This Song Remains the Same, accompanied by a new DVD, on Nov. 20.

Oh man, I wish I could go! The only one I've ever seen live was John Paul Jones, and he put on one hell of a show!

I had a ticket to go see them, but the concert was cancelled due to Bonham's death.

His son is fantastic on drums though, so it would be pretty close to hearing the original lineup.

Hey Pip, is that pounds or US dollars? If that's pounds, then we're really looking at close to $500 for a ticket.

Here's an update:

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Rock fans have rushed to register to see Led Zeppelin's comeback gig after the legendary group announced plans for their first live performance in more than two decades.

Around 20 million people have already applied online to buy tickets for the November 26 concert at London's O2 Arena with the Web site crashing as it struggled to cope with 80,000 visitors a minute, promoters said.

Registration closes on Monday, following which the £125 ($250) tickets will be allocated by lottery.

"The message is to be patient. The Web site will be open until midday Monday September 17 for anyone wanting to register," a spokesman for organizers told the UK's Press Association.

"It is not 'first come, first served' and all successful applicants will be entered into the ballot for tickets to be drawn at random."

The eagerly-awaited reunion will bring together the British band's three surviving members -- singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bass player John Paul Jones -- as part of a tribute concert honoring Atlantic Records co-founder Ahmet Ertegun, who died last year.

Jason Bonham, the son of the band's original drummer John Bonham, will also join the band on stage. Bonham died in 1980 after a drinking binge and the group split shortly afterwards, bringing to an end a decade-long reign as one of the biggest -- and most notorious -- bands in the world.

Famous for songs including "Stairway to Heaven," "Whole Lotta Love" and "Kashmir", for their epic live performances and infamous partying, the band have sold more than 200 million records, including more than 100 million in the U.S.

The remaining band members have played together several times since their split, including at Live Aid in 1985. The latest reunion also coincides with a new greatest hits album, "Mothership," due to be released in November.

Described by Plant as a "a close friend and conspirator," Ertegun launched Led Zeppelin's career when he signed them to his Atlantic label, previously known for soul and R&B music, in 1968.

The Who's Pete Townshend, Bill Wyman, Foreigner and young Scottish singer Paolo Nutini -- the last British act Ertegun signed -- will also play at the concert, described as a "tribute from UK artists that Ertegun worked with in a 60-year career," according to a press release.

Money raised from ticket sales will go to the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which provides students with annual scholarships to universities in the U.S., UK and Ertegun's native Turkey
