Forums in general

Generally speaking, I'm not a big Forum person.  There are a couple of bands whose forums I've joined, and let me tell you, they are nothing like this one!

One is a really busy one with so many members, who are so totally not on the same wavelength in any way, shape or form, it's stupid.  And also, there are so may posts that are repetitions of a running thread you were already covering elsewhere, it's annoying.  Oh, and the stupid random thoughts that have nothing to do with said band, or music, or really anything - you couldn't possibly keep up with them all, even if you wanted to.  (Which I don't.)

And on it and the other 2 band sites I've posted on (which aren't very busy at all) people don't really seem interested in conversing.  For example, if someone mentions a a rock club near me, I'll ask what other shows they've been to there or what other bands they like, or whatever, and no one ever gets back to me.  It's like I'm talking to no one.  hmm  I don't get it.  And when someone says they'd be interested in others' opinions or input, I will post, then never hear from them again.  To me, that's just rude.

So Riggs, lately when I hear you talking about joining the FFR forum on air, and you say how it's really different from others, I see your point!

Done now.

Yeah, I've had the same experience LS.

Even moreso, I just find that other forums can be very difficult to break into the "click". The groups have formed and it almost feels like high-school.

I love that when a new member signs up for our forum we all rush to welcome them.

I've joined forums where I've been completely ignored even AFTER I started talking hmm.gif

Not for me, there aren't!

I'll tell ya, you'd think if you liked a band enough to join their forum, you'd want to talk to others who feel the same way, but apparently not.  no.gif

I've got four that I frequent.

One of them is called "Talk Bass". It is a forum for bass players. They must be pretty relaxed as they even let me join! Its a pretty good forum. As long as you don't go in with a "I'm awesome and I'm here to teach you all what you need to know" kind of attitude, most of them are pretty helpful and easy to get along with. There are some REALLY GOOD players that hang out on that forum. When a punk comes in and starts spouting off their excellence, it doesn't take long before they get ridiculed or put in their place.

Another is a very specific forum for the control panel software I lease for my servers. Its a technical forum, not a social one. Most conversations are pretty much on topic and mostly of an question/answer kind of thing. For the most case, they are a helpful bunch.

The other one is a web hosting forum. They cover many topics regarding Web Hosting and they have their fair share of jerks. When you post something there, you are more likely to get an initial response pointing out a mistake in spelling or grammar, reason for posting, method of posting, etc than you are a helpful answer. Usually, someone will come along later that will be willing to provide solid help or discussion.

The bass forum is a fairly social group but it stays around the subject of basses or playing bass. FFR is the only purely social forum I am involved with.

Now it feels like home here.

You know the thing is it just takes one or two bad apples to ruin an entire forum.

We've been SOOOOOOOOOO lucky getting only high quality people signing up for this one.

Everyone respects each others opinions and very VERY rarely does anyone attack or say something mean-spirited. Even then it's just a slip and they quickly make their apologies and move forward.

That's why I love this place. It really feels like family. Not always perfect (just like family), but always there for each other in the end.

I think I posted something not long ago about my experience with another forum and how many darn rules they have! I keep hearing how wonderful that particular forum is and how friendly and I just shake my head. They have no idea. no.gif

I've been on a few other forums, but this is the only one I check daily.

I'm actually still a moderator on the Mythology Web forum, but I stopped going after it got a whole bunch of highschoolers who never talked about mythology and were just too highschooler-ish.

I also am a member of the View Askew (Kevin Smith) forum. But there's definitely clicks there. And I can't keep up with all the posts because there's so many members. And, most of the time, it's not about any of his stuff, which is the real reason I joined that forum.

When I first joined this forum, each and every one of you made me feel welcomed right away.  That struck me, more than anything, about how different this forum is than any others I've joined in the past.  I belong to various gamer forums......there are only two of those that I still frequent regularly......most of the people there stay on topic, will help with questions or offer advice about games, offer help if you're "stuck" somewhere in a game; they are generally good people.  Most of the other forums I belong to do nothing but "flame" each other, are very rude to newbies, give bad advice, stuff like that.  Granted, gamer forums tend to draw a lot of teens, but there are also a lot of people in their 30's &40's on those forums too and they are just as bad as the teens.

I've grown to feel very at home here, and I like the people here.  It does feel like a family, and in my opinion, that's what makes this place so unique!  smile

The only other forum I have been to on a regular basis is at (www.smartwrestlingfan.com) it is the forum for a podcast I listen too about wrestling, they have a great community feel to their forum too but I don't really use it anywhere near as much as I do here, I just don't think you can beat this fourm, I have never had any problems with any member here past or present, you are all great people and I enjoy chatting to everyone of you.
