Britney Spears has lost custody of her children after a turbulent year and a bitter court battle with her ex-husband.
The order, issued by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon, stated Federline "is to retain physical custody of the minor children (starting at noon) on Wednesday ... until further order of the court".
Representatives for Spears and Federline were not immediately available for comment.
The court order came 10 days after the 25-year-old singer was charged with hit and run and driving without a valid licence.
The ruling follows the custody battle's nastiest turn yet, with Kevin's lawyer attempting to have Britney arrested over her latest alleged driving violation.
Spears, who was busted on charges of driving without a license less than two weeks ago, was allegedly spotted behind the wheel yet again on the weekend with her two children in the car.
It looks to have proved the decisive blow in the custody battle, as Federline sought to prove their kids Sean Preston and Jayden James are not safe with Spears.
Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan was back in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday to disclose the new piece of evidence.
Spears's driver's license from her homestate of Louisiana has expired, according to authorities.
In addition, sources tell E! News that Spears has never applied for a driver's licence from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, a requirement for state residents.
Less than two weeks ago, Spears was hit with two misdemeanour charges over an August 6 hit-and-run in which she damaged a Mercedes and was driving without a licence.
The accident occurred outside an LA vitamin store, where Spears dinged the car and drove off without even leaving a note.
Paparazzi obtained photo and video evidence of Spears fleeing the scene, and it is likely to be used by the prosecution during her trial, which begins on October 10.
However, due to judge's orders, evidence from the hit-and-run was reportedly void in Spears's custody battle.
The troubled singer is already facing up to 6 months in jail if she is convicted of the August accident.
