Ever Have a Good Part-time Job??

Hey!

Has anyone ever had a second part-time job that they really enjoyed, or at least didn't mind doing? If so, what was it?

I ask, because I think I am about to begin looking. I am aggressively trying to eliminate all my debts in 4 yrs, while maximizing the contributions to my roth and 401k. In 4 yrs I hope to have the car payed for, and the credit cards down to $0.

In doing so, I need to watch where every last penny goes. That gets tiresome. It affords for no errors or emergencies, in order for this to work. And y'all know life is all about errors or emergencies. I'd like a bigger buffer $-wise, and am willing to work for that. BUT:

flexible hours would be necessary (even moreso than good pay)
wouldn't want to work more than 16 hrs/ wk
wouldn't want to do anything involving the general public.

I grade college papers from time to time, but that's sporadic.

Has anyone ever done anything from home- eg- survey sites that actually pay money, etc?

Thanks for any suggestions! smile

I was there until you said not working with the public. It's hard to get a part time job and not have to work with people.

This winter I plan to take up a second job doing taxes. I've taken the class at Jackson Hewitt, and the teacher (and manager) thought I was great and she's been trying to get me to work for her for years now. And basically I'm looking for a little bit of money just to help get some things paid off. But the best part will be that it's seasonal. 3 months a year, don't have to sign on the next year, no need to worry about quitting. And the manager is really flexible about hours. Basically I'll just have to tell her when I can work, and that's when she'll schedule me. I haven't done a tax season yet, but I have a few friends that do, and they say it's actually pretty boring. There will be a few busy days in April, but otherwise it's pretty laid back. And if you get taxes that are a little more advanced than you feel capable of, one of the more experienced people have no problem taking it over.

I wish I had some advice to offer you JD, but unfortunately, I don't. As I'm getting older, I feel pretty much the same as you......I don't want to deal with the public idiots anymore. Like Mz, I do taxes during tax season to earn some extra cash, but I do it from the comfort of my own home. I don't touch the complicated taxes anymore because I got burnt out trying to stay current on all the tax laws, but I have a steady list of friends with the basic, straight-forward returns that pay me to do their's. While I'll never get rich from this, it does provide me with a little extra cash, and that's all I'm after.....a little extra spending money.

Hey Jazz, despite working with the public I suggest working as an usher at the Brewers or Bucks games.  I have a friend who did that for the Indianapolis Indians, our AAA baseball team, and he had a great time.  He did it for the same reasons as you. With 81 and 41 games that would make a nice part-time job for just a third of the year.  Plus you get to watch the games!!!!

My Survey

This is strictly a regualr survey site.

  • Earn points for joining, taking surveys & referring others
  • Redeem points for cash, prizes, or charity donations with just a few simple clicks.
  • 1,000 points = $10.00 cash
If you are interested please let me know and I will email you an invite.

It may sound more complicated than it really is. I have not done any offers yet that require a credit card. I have strictly stuck to freebies na dhave got paid. Credit card offers do pay out more though. Just depends on what you are comfortable with. I may do some credit cards in the near future though, now that I know what I am doing. It is not mandatory that you refer anyone, but it does help you earn more. It's just an added bonus.
