The Do You Suppose Thread...

Do you suppose war is an attempt to steamroll an ideology onto a people because the ideology itself isn't enough of a selling point for people to actually buy into it?confused.gif

I don't go that deep.  I think war is a disagreement.  No different than a barfight, just on a larger scale.  Like a drunken bar fight, the participants often don't even know exactly what they're fighting for.

do you suppose that a whole bunch of americans hate the fact they get taxed to not only pay for the drinks for that large-scale bar-fight, but bought the fighting gloves, and are paying for the hospital bill for "the loser"?confused.gif

I thinks Americans hate all sorts of things our government taxes us to pay for.

I didn't buy a home with a fairy tale interest rate knowing that when the rate increased my payments would balloon and I'd never be able to afford it.

I kind of wish I had now, since the government wants to do what it can to help those that did so they can keep their homes.  Ultimately I'll be paying for that.

One thing I miss JD is our red-faced, vein popping political discussions. I've said it before and I'll say it again. You and I usually could not disagree more, but when the debate ended we were able to act as if nothing had happened. I respect that. It's good to share ideas and opinions and not have to worry that it's going to damage a friendship.

On a much lighter do you suppose topic...

Do you suppose McDonalds fries taste as good since they went with a healthier oil to fry them in?

I will make two short points (because I can't help myself) and then leave it be.

1)  I still believe that the war was mostly derailed because of Democrats mucking up the plans.  I could go into many examples, but I won't.  I just think the way Washington works combined with the current media and internet changes the way a war is carried out and not for the best.

2)  We won this war in a matter of two weeks.  Where we have failed is in trying to prop the country back up once we removed the leader and his henchmen.  Most countries would have left after two weeks and let the Iraqis sort out the mess.  Our desire to "fix" everything is why we're stuck there.

well I guess we ruined their country on our own terms, we best try and fix it. Trillions of dollars later. What gets me is that both democrats and republicans want our military out of there, and get mad that the "new authority" just "can't get itself together" to police the new Iraq democracy correctly...

hey wait. where's Osama?confused.gif

its kinda like "where's the beef" and "find Waldo".smile.gif american style...

I'd have been ok with blowing it up and walking away. Again though, too long a discussion for here.

As for the McDonalds fries, I had some a week ago and didn't even notice the difference. I wasn't aware they had made the switch already.

I can't get past the idea that the cia couldn't have placed 3 well-placed bullets into Saddam and his sons and freed the happy to be freed from tyranny iraq people into the prosperous joy of american-styled capitalism.smile.gif

..which we ourselves in america are going to have to ride out the next recession in...which I predict begins.....NOW....I called it.blankstare.gif

If we killed him we had to kill his sons too though. They were even more ruthless than he was.

Dan Rather interviewed him weeks before the invasion. He should have been a patriot and took him out right there for us!

nod.gif  Yep, I sure do!!!  And I'd even go a step further and say that our government has become the main terrorist throughout the world.
