Give Me A Money....

well it looks like the $800 they were talking about  might be $300 per individual....

I don't know if that's enough to spend on anything other than bills? hows that to stimulate the economy??

WASHINGTON - Democratic and Republican congressional leaders reached a tentative deal Thursday on tax rebates of $300 to $1,200 per household and business tax cuts to jolt the slumping economy.

Congressional officials close to the negotiations said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Republican Leader John Boehner of Ohio reached agreement in principle in a telephone call Thursday morning.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the two wanted key members of their parties to sign off on the accord before any announcement.

money is money but oh man cry

The higher amount would be so beneficial! There are tons of things I could buy that I have just been putting off because things are tight.

hey woo? maybe something fun in addition to bills? get that money out there to support local businesses?

$300 won't cut that I 'm afraid. I think most folks are at least $300 in the hole or have utility bills coming up....not enough to make a difference or to really make people confident enough to go out and treat themselves to a nice weekend or somethin...hmm

yeah that's what I mean. with the higher amount, I'd have no problem taking a shopping trip. But $300 is nothing, but it's still $300 I didn't have before. But I don't see a shopping trip in the future. Yep like ya said- it would just go towards bills. hmm

Yep, I've got to agree with you there JD. $300 would just go towards bills. It would have to be something larger than a paycheck for me to really use it for a shopping spree. The most shopping it would be would be 3 weeks of groceries.

well now CNN.com is saying it may be $600....
here's a novel idea...maybe wait on things until they are written in stone before providing people with wrong information.

(The $300 was from msnbc)

Sources: You may get $600 rebate check

U.S. taxpayers would get checks of several hundred dollars from the government under a plan to stimulate the economy, sources said today. Sources on Capitol Hill and at the Treasury Department said negotiators agreed to cut checks for $600 per individual and $1,200 per couple. developing story

I'm all for money back too, but where is this money coming from?

Does our government have a surplus of funds?

Is is just getting added on to the national debt?

oops...I was misleading the people of the forum. Sorry folks.smile
WASHINGTON - Looking pretty is costing John Edwards' presidential campaign a lot of pennies. The Democrat's campaign committee picked up the tab for two haircuts at $400 each by celebrity stylist Joseph Torrenueva of Beverly Hills, Calif., according to a financial report filed with the Federal Election Commission.

FEC records show Edwards also availed himself of $250 in services from a trendy salon and spa in Dubuque, Iowa, and $225 in services from the Pink Sapphire in Manchester, N.H., which is described on its Web site as "a unique boutique for the mind, body and face" that caters mostly to women.

A spokeswoman for Edwards' campaign did not respond to requests for comment.

I read that they were waiting until june for this years tax reap to come in, and then distribute from that. BUt that's a good point web. Its not like there is a surplus anywhere....

I just read that individual taxpayers will receive $600; working families are to get $1200, with an addition of $300 per child.  People that work but earn less than $3,000 will get a $300 rebate.

While I'll be happy to get some money in June, I too am wondering where all this cash is going to come from.  I'm afraid we may pay for it later on down the road. hmm

So does that mean that I would get $600 for myself and $300 for my daughter?

From the way it's worded, yes, I believe that's how it's going to work FF.
