Walking In Memphis

it looks like my plans to head to Memphis in May are taking shape!

I'll most likely be there from May 8th thru the 12th!

Anyone ever been? Got any must try places or must sees (besides Graceland)??

smile

That's great! I've never been, but my husband went a few years ago & really liked Graceland.

We stayed out at the Embassy Suites just east of the city about 20 minutes or so....we were there for the Liberty Bowl football game so it was tought to find anything closer. And we did also want to do the Stax Museum, but ran out of time....just remembered....do the Gibson Factory tour...it's just off of Beale Street and literally across the steet from the Rock and Soul Museum, which is attached to the FedEx Forum......

Mark is enthusing - he was there in 03

He says the Rock and Soul Museum was good for half a day

Sun Studios was good too for an hour or 2... (he bought me a Sun Studio Tee Shirt)

He also recommends the Gibson Guitar Museum ( 1 -2 hrs)

But he says the absolute must is the National Civil Rights museum which he says was very thought provoking and moving in parts.

The old Trams are worth a ride too... old and traditional

He says you can't beat having a beer and a shoe shine on Beale Street!!

He loved Memphis and would love to go again as he didn't have much time there....

He stayed in the Heartbreak Hotel too and sent me a wee note on their complimentary writing paper..

Wow, good for you JD!!  I've never been there, but Pip's, G-gal's, and SG's suggestions all sound like they'd be well worth checking out!  According to online stuff, Memphis has become a hot spot for all kinds of music and music related places to visit.  The Stax Museum G-gal recommends sounds like something you'd definitely enjoy visiting!!  smile

I think all of my husband's family has been- more than once. My mother-in-law is a huge Elvis fan. A few years back they took the girl to Graceland. I have never been. cry
