One Thing I Would Not Mind at All....

I was thinking this morning just how many idiot reckless driving speeders there are on the freeway, and wondering why I hardly ever see any Sherriffs cars out there patrolling. It has to do with a lack of money.

We have all these department of transportation cameras along the higways now. Why not set up a ticketing system where any car doing, say, 11 miles over the speed limit gets photographed and the owner of that car gets a ticket. Sometimes to keep the flow of traffic, 5 or even 10 miles an hour over works well. But just to really stick it to these blatantly wreckless kings of the road in their ghetto cruisers, or them smarmy bald lawyers in their little Miatas. Those who think their **** don't stink on the road. This would be a wonderful money maker for the state. say, $100 per infraction. the morons would eventually have to learn to DRIVE SAFE, RESPECT OTHER PEOPLE, AND PAY ATTENTION.

If lack of money is the issue, then this system, too, would be problematic. WI just isn't equipped for the technological or administrative support needed to operate on the camera ticketing concept yet. It's unfortunate that we aren't - it would be great to catch the dummies speeding excessively or using the emergency lane for passing.

You think so? I'd think the man-hours saved from not needing manned speed-traps, plus the sort of totalitarian enforcement of "you are guilty /its on tape/here watch" would (ideally of course) be such a profit maker! The cameras are already in place, ($$$); I'd think any additional cost for whatever software or hardware programs needed would be easily paid for by the fines, and make the cameras that much more useful and valuable! smile.gif

I could be wrong, but unlike Sammy Hagar, I CAN drive 55.smile.gif

Yeah, I think it would still be an issue. The $$$ from the tickets would not come fast enough...there's start-up cost involved needs to be budgeted and would take time. Training, technology upgrades on the administrative end, tech planning and support - all very expensive and time consuming. I believe I read that WI wants to get there, but it will be a slow process to pilot and implement.

It may be just my perception that I see a lack of enforcement when it really could be a cash-cow plus keep the roads safer. Maybe there should be an IQ test in addition to a driving test?? LOL I just want to see these idiots busted routinely. I guess parking tickets are easier...

Oh trust me, I'd love to see it put in place. And I agree, it would make a lot of money, especially in the early use of the system. It's just not what the govenrment considers feasible yet. They gotta spend $$$ to make $$$...
