EARTHQUAKE!!!!

Holy Crapola!!!

About 5:38 this morning I'm getting up just set down at the computer to check the headlines and suddenly the house shifted. Not shaked but it felt like a large wind hit the house. But it wasn't like the big winds before because for a nano second it felt like a shift. I thought that was weird and within a second or two after that the house began to shake. The glasses and dishes rattled and whole house was shaking for about 3-5 seconds.

The girls came running out of their rooms asking what happened. "Was that an earthquake?" I told them I thought it was. My wife was in the shower and didn't notice a thing.

Reports are it was 5.4 on the Richter scale. According to the USGS the epicenter was 7 miles east of West Salem Illinois. That's 41 miles from Evansville and 128 miles from St. Louis.

I'll have to look at the exterior of the house when the sun comes up to see if there is any damage to the bricks.

Did anyone else feel that one? I know Mz had to feel it.

Oh Yeah....Happy Friday all.

p.s. I'd like to request "Whole Lot Of Shakin' Goin' On" - Jerry Lee Lewis

Hope you have no damage!

I'm going outside to look at the exterior. I doubt if there is any damage. The only thing I've heard is a broken window in Muncie and an facade of a building in Louisville collapsed.

I also heard it was felt in Milwaukee, there are also reports it was felt in Michigan too. Woo? Anything?

And how bout this for history....102 years ago today....The Great San Francisco Earthquake!!!!

The last time there was a quake this big in the area was a 5.5 in 1968. It was centered in Carbondale Ill.

The last earthquake this big in the area was in 1987. It was 5.0 and happened around 6pm. I remember it too.

It was different than this one. It just shook for a few seconds. It felt like a large truck was rumbling down the street. I went outside to see and everyone else was outside too looking up and down the street. It was kind of comical.

No damage that I see. I didn't think there would be any.

I guess I should make some money off this.

Be the first in your area to purchase the

"I survived the Great Earthquake of 2008" T-shirts $19.95

I bet someone is already designing one and we'll see it on the streets before noon.

Thanks Web! I'm sure I'll get a call from my insurance agent to buy earthquake insurance. I don't have it and I don't think there is a need....at least not yet.

I just found out the quake has been downgraded to a 5.2. You can never get a break from those Russian judges! (Olympic Ice Skating Judging reference)

WFIE out of Evansville was on the air when it hit. I'm sure you'll see the video sometime today.

Well I'm off to make calls. Everyone have a good day.

I'm calling today James Bond Friday....because we're shakin' not stirred!!! ashamed.gif

Let the moaning begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........................later.................

Hey Ray, I wondered how much you felt it! I was asleep and it woke me up! I thought it was a tornado! They're checking bridges and such around here, but they haven't found anything so far. There's this one bridge that has a stoplight at each end that sits above the highway. You can feel it when large trucks drive across. That would've been a scary place to be when the earthquake hit!

I remember we had an earthquake drill in school in '87. We were basically told to get under our desks.

Oh, so earthquake is "get under your desk"?

I always got "earthquake" and "nuclear blast" mixed up on which was which.

I'm glad everyone is alright! We didn't feel a thing. But we were up late last night and were sleeping pretty good this am.

Who needs MSNBC.com, I get all my news here first smile.gif

I didn't feel anything, but I was doped up on NyQuil.  I agree about a bridge being the last place I'd wanna be during an earthquake though.

I'm glad your home is alright Ray!  Yours too MZ.

Mz did feel a second quake-

The U.S. Geological Survey is confirming that a second quake struck in Illinois about 10:14 this morning.

The second quake, 4.6 magnitude, was less severe than the initial shock that spread throughout the Midwest around 4:30 a.m., but was felt in Wisconsin, based on witness reports.

Glad that Ray and Mz have no damage done to their homes!!

The quake you guys had back in '87 was felt here in MI.  It cracked a few walls in my house and things did shake; a few pictures fell off the walls.  I remember it being a really weird feeling.  Depending on whom you believe, this region is due for a big quake.  What the heck are you supposed to do if you're in one???

You know, we've got tornadoes, blizzards, flooding, and now earthquakes. Next week, I swear Indiana's going to get hit with a tsunami!
