New Radio Gig for JD???

There's a radio station across the street (actually several), but the old jazz station that I miss has become a community based radio station in the past year. Features an ecclectic mix of music with emphasis (at times) on local music.

I received an email from their HR person this week, regarding my willingness to volenteer to help this station. I think its really about handing out flyers at summer festivals from a tent, perhaps. But the HR person wants to know if I can come in sometime this week to talk about it. I'm gonna go, and see what the deal is. smile.gif

Well, they can have you during the week, but Sunday nights belong to us!!!  biggrin

Seriously though, it wouldn't hurt to look into it and see what they have in mind.  But Sunday nights will still belong to us!   smile

I'm sure they're just looking for flyer grunts.biggrin.gif But hey, I believe in LOCAL broadcast radio with real djs. It might be fun. Many of the outdoor fests, I'd be going to anyhow, I'm more than ok with going early, gettin in free because I am handing out hand-fans or ...finger puppets or somethin.smile.gif

Oh hey, outdoor concerts would be fun to broadcast live from!  Our local DJs have a blast when they're out doing live shows like that. smile

Exactly! I think it sounds fun! And who knows what it might lead to in terms of other opportunities to do stuff with that station.

I can picture you out mingling with lots of people, doing radio promos and such.  You have a quick sense of humor and a gift for gab, and people like that when they're out at those type of events.  I think you would have a blast!! biggrin

Agreed.  Sounds good & could lead to something.

A good friend of mine is actually DJing at a college station.  He's in his 40's and doesn't go to the college, but they had an opening, and he is sort of like a local celeb - he's had a mom & pop record store for 20 years, and has been in various local bands.  Anyway, he gets his own slot every Wednesday, and loves it.  And the thing is, you think - College station - how many listeners can you get?  But it also broadcasts over the Internet.  And he has people from other countries writing to him about his show.  Like FFR.  Pretty cool!

JD if you need a reference you got one from me. I say go for it. Something like that could lead to a gig. However, and this is important, you bet you can't drink on the air working for them.

so this went pretty well. Its about me and maybe 8 other people who can pick and chose events around town to go to and hand out t-shirts and stuff & talk about the station. They're running this contest where listeners get a ticket punched for each event they go to and visit the tent. After so many punches, they get entered into a drawing where the winner wins two tickets to this "Come To Milwaukee" contest. You're supposed to bring some friends to milwaukee to visit. weird, but I'll give it a go.smile.gif

That sounds like it would be fun to do JD.  Whenever our radio stations do promotions like this, they get flooded with people and it turns into a kind of party atmospere.  I've got some pretty cool t-shirts, promo cds, etc. from our radio stations' promos.  smile
