....sitting here doing some work from home before heading out. Listening to FFR and enjoying the morning. Today was supposed to be rainy but the sun is shining and it's pleasant hitting the mid 70's. Got to enjoy it now. Changes are a comin' 50's for the start of the week.
ah today is a poopy day weatherwise. It is all dreary and we may have a t-storm. It's a bit cooler but they say it may get up to 78. We'll see. I kinda hope not being as I am in pants and pretty much all black. I have to take my CPR referesher course tonight after work. We are taking it at the shop that is by our house. Last night I screwed up my time taping and cut off Lost. I had too much on that we watch plus a hockey game, which we won, that I depended on VCRs. Our triple play package through Comcast is over so we dropped our service to basic digital and have to take our dvr back tomorrow. I picked up a flash drive to store the music files yesterday. If my husband goes golfing Sunday maybe I'll move some files to it then. I also need to make some cards before my craft supplies get packed away.

The weather is supposed to be nice here. 80 degrees, with a 30 percent chance of rain. Bloomington is beautiful. We have tons of flowering trees, and they're out at full force right now.
oh I forgot to say that the "for rent" sign was put in our yard yesterday. We have lived here for 3 yrs. Don't you think as a landlord you would want to see if repairs were needed?

Since there's so many renters in Bloomington, we actually have a department in our local government for stuff like that. But I know what you mean, the apartment we had before we moved into the townhouse was similar. Our upstair's neighbor's bathroom was falling into our next door neighbor's bedroom, the foundation was crumbling (I was afraid to go into the basement), and he didn't even clean an apartment before turning it over.
Hey Woo why don't you put a sign next to the "For Rent" sign saying "Before you call to rent call this number for "Real" information. I bet that would get his attention.
I think I jinxed us when I posted the Spring is here thread. We are getting sleet or snow and it's cold outside. I was hoping it would be another 70 degree weekend but no chance. I want to make a trip to Lowes this weekend to see what kind of patio blocks they have available. I think AC finally made up her mind where she wants me to build it.

Yes, winter is back. It is 32 degrees, the grass is white with snow, its still snowing. Its cold, wet, and sloppy. Its supposed to warm up enough to turn back into rain but right now, it is rather winterish outside.
Mrs Web and I are feeling better, but still fighting the congestion and fatigue from these colds we have. So far the boy has escaped it, I'm hoping he doesn't get it too.

oh I wish I could, but I probably already have to fight to get my security deposit back.

Morning gang. You Midwesterners can keep your snow/sleet/rain combo. Today is beautiful, although the clouds and rain will be moving in late in the evening. It is due to cool down Sunday into Monday. You guys know how I get your weather a day or two later.
Hope everyone can have some kind of productive day and then live it up when you get home tonight.

Woo, that's ridiculous. I can't believe how bad some landlords can be. That was like this February when Erica got her first apartment. She rented on the "fashionable" east side and it was clear the guy who owns the place just worries about getting someone in there fast to pay rent.
It was filthy. Her and my Mom spent a week cleaning before she even moved in. There were holes in the wall, broken screens, etc.
I've been fortunate, my Landlady is the exact opposite. Always upgrading stuff, replacing things with top of the line replacements. She's actually worried about the resale value of her property as opposed to just getting every last dollar in rent money.
we used to rent an older house in a little rural town from a really nice man. when we were going through tough financial times, he'd let my husband do the fixing up of things and deduct it from the rent, and he'd give us december rent free so we'd have christmas money. and he didn't stick it to us either. our rent was only $250 plus utilities. it was an older house, but it wasn't a dive.
my daughter moved off campus earlier this year. she had a very hard time finding a house to rent because just as fast as the sign goes up, it comes down. renters know they won't have a problem finding someone (anyone) to move in. and it just amazes me what rent goes for even for houses that are obviously barely livable!

Good morning all! I am in Birmingham, AL today, called "The Magic City." I have no idea why it's called that or why there's little images of Vulcan on most of the magnets and t-shirts. I simply MUST investigate to know why.
Not a great place so far...my room was filthy and there were susicious white stains on the coverlet for one of the beds...needless to say I slept in the other bed.
Does anyone know why the company named Sloss is such a big deal in this town? There was some major event that now makes it a tourist attraction.
ANyway, hope you all are having a good day!

Hey I bet the cab you took to the hotel was 50 yrs old!
Hey is the freeway a dirt road?
Smart-aleck! Honestly, there's little I have seen other than the htoel and convention center. And after reading the travel guide, I'm not sure there's much else to see. If I see vultures, I'll send you a picture.

I've seen both sides of it too. Some renters are just ignorant, trashy, abusers.
The thing that amazes me is how many of those trashy renters just pull out and leave stuff behind.
Across the street and one down from us is a rental house. There were a bunch of young "adults" living in there for only a couple months. The first of this month, I noticed the owner had a "roll off" dumpster sitting out side and he was cleaning up after them. When he got done, the thing was full of their trash. It even had furniture in it like chest of drawers, tables, etc. These people just left it behind.
I know some landlords are just fools for not taking care of their properties. But on the other hand, I know some that feel like "Why should I go fix it and make it nice? The next one will just come in and tear it up anyway".

yuck!
i can see the landlords feeling that way, but i think when it gets to that point, it's time to sell...

I've seen the other side too, but mine is just dumb. When we asked if we could paint the bathroom, he panicked and said to make sure it was a neutral color. First off, we had been there for a few yrs and showed what kind of tenants we are. Second, the darn bathroom was a hideous green with ivy stencil that did not match the grey and brown floor tile or the shower tile! The shower tile has green paint drips! I'm really mad that we made repairs now. Most we didn't do until this past year.
*he couldn't fix the roof, the garage floor, living room floor, electrical issue with light, breakers going off for no reason, fill holes to prevent bugs especially after the bees in the wall!

I think I've told this story before (but after five years in a forum what story HASN'T been retold).
I managed an 8 unit apartment complex about ten years ago. I was shocked when some people would move out. The damage would often far exceed the security deposit.
I remember one couple, when they moved out I went into their apartment and doors were torn off hinges. Fist holes were in the wall. There was a huge black gooey area on the living room carpet coming from the closet, the guy had left a CAR ENGINE in there!

i predict some bad karma knocking at his back door... wave and smile as he watches y'all drive away...

my husband is tempted to have someone we know inquire about the place just to see what he is charging- we still don't know if he was going to raise the rent on us.
