Man loses legs in motorcycle crash
A Milwaukee man lost both legs Friday night in a motorcycle crash in Greenfield, police there said.

The crash was in the 7600 block of W. Forest Home Ave.

The man, 33, had "extremely severe trauma," police said in an e-mail release, and was taken to Froedtert Memorial Hospital. Police did not identify him.

Police said the man was westbound on Forest Home at a high rate of speed when he lost control, struck the median and was ejected from the motorcycle. As he flew through the air his body struck a traffic sign and both of his legs were amputated, the release said.

Alcohol does not appear to be involved in the crash, police said. The victim did not have a valid motorcycle license, police said.

My cousin's boyfriend hit a DEER on his motorcycle late one night. He went home because it was a deserted stretch of road and he couldn't get off the thing. When he got home he lay there for hours yelling for help. Nineteen surgeries later, he still can't work. Where we live, riding a motorcycle is dangerous no matter your level of expertise. We've had three people killed on motorcycles by collisions with deer in less than a year. cry.gif

I don't deny the risks you take in motorcycling, but the guy in the article obviously wasn't being a smart rider. Forest Home is NOT a place to speed that much, and not being a licensed rider along with it tells me it is someone who really doesn't know the skills for motorcycling. I can't say I agree on the level of expertise - there are a lot of "experts" who don't truly understand the safety skills of SEE and other key preventive riding measures. Years of riding do not make someone a skilled rider alone. That's nothing against your cousin's boyfriend, I'm just making a clarifying statement about a common misconception of riding.
