Newbie postin' on the board

Hi All!

First time poster.  Jeremy played my request so I thought I would chime in on the boards.  Can all give me a feel for the site( what u like best, what's the future plans for the station, u all friends or did u meet on the net, etc).  Looking forward to getting some good discussions going.  I'm a little wrapped up in this SE Asia thing now, it's too surreal!

Am I too newbie to ask for a magnet?  I think that's hilarious.  Hey Jeremy's playing another request of mine, Dire Straits, thanks dude.

Can we email discs to the station that we own to expand the collection, would be a great way to expand the library.

Look forward to interacting with all of u!

SDMAC,

A lot of the regular posters still aren't around, so things are a bit slow, but I can answer some of your questions.

1) Yes, you can definately have a couple magnets, just email me the address you'd like them sent to (riggs@freezeframeardio.com)

2) Future of the station:  Unknown   Well, not really, but the only two things on the horizon for us are that we are trying to finish installing a MUCH COOLER request system, which is more graphic heavy (album art, group photo's, etc) and easier to use (search function, easier to read playlist, etc).   The other thing is that we are working on an ongoing contest that will allow listeners to win prizes for listening and posting throughout the year.

3) The Tsunami.  Couldn't agree more, an amazing tragedy.  I'm not often moved to donate for a cause, but I did in this case.  It's heartbreaking to watch the news and see the devastation this has caused.  You just wish there was more that you could do to help those poor people.

4) E-mailing CD's to us to expand the collection.  Our collection is pretty comprehensive as far as the 80's go (if you can't find what you're looking for you can use the instant request form on the main page of the site and we'll look through our CD library), but the collection is a bit weaker from the 70's & 90's.

If you have something you'd like played, and we do not have it, AND it fits the genre of the station, we will accept an emailed copy of the album.  Because we operate via Live365 the artists do receive their royalties on every song we play, so you don't even have to feel guilty about a file share :)  But check with us first, because there's always a chance we have it.

AGAIN, WELCOME ABOARD!

Regarding the mention of the tsunami... it was definitely a terrible tragedy but I find it ironic that countries like Indonesia, the Maldives, and Somalia which are chock full of Muslims that despise the USA now have their hands out wanting millions of dollars in aid from the USA. Meanwhile, countries such as India and Thailand which are friendly to the US have declined any foriegn aid.  I am sorry but Somalia I have no sympathy for whatsoever after what they did to our troops the last time we tried to help them with humanitarian aid(as depicted in "Blackhawk Down"). I read today where even the UN is afraid to fly in aid to them because of all the anti-aircraft artillery that the various warlords in that country possess.

Nicely put.  I agree 100 %.  Why is it expected for the US to be the number one relief agency?

I too agree.  I think foreign aid should be left to citizens that want to donate money, food, clothing, etc.  Sandra Bullock just donated a million bucks.  Bill Gates donates hundreds of millions every year.

If our government is going to spend money it should be on our OWN problems, our OWN homeless, our OWN hungry, etc.

They take the money out of our pocket and we have no say in how they spend it.  That's always irked me.

And then the NERVE of someone from the UN to question our "stingy" $35 million initial aid package.

What a joke.

I have to say a few words about the above, first of all I think it is a bit racist to say that muslims despise the us, thats just clearly not true, some extremist musilms may have a problem with the the US but you cannot generalise the whole muslim faith as american hating. As for the US goverment giving 35 million dollars, I find that a bit shocking if its true, so far I believe the UK "people" have given around 100 million pounds, and our government have pledge to give several hundered more. So I feel the UN have every right to comment on the US donation. Lets not forget that these are all people regardless of relgion, who need help from country who can afford to give it.

sorry if that offends any of you, but forum's are for expression of views and thats mine.

Actually, NPR interviewed the UN guy, Jan Egeland, who said that comment about being stingy. I think he was misquoted, not directly commenting about the $35 million, but saying that there is always a high need for foreign relief aid all over and in general the wealthy countries don't donate as much as they could relatively speaking. Here's a quote from him in the interview: "....are the rich countries in the world addressing world needs and world poverty on a sufficient level and then it is my job to say no I see too many poor unfed children and too many refugee camps in disaster situations and conflict areas in Africa and elsewhere to say that the present levels of assist are good enough". Probably some backpedaling there, but it is interesting that we spend billions on a war in one nation when we could be spending that money in other ways for same so called purposes. As long as that's really why we're there

Ultimo,

No one should have a problem with differing opinions as long as they're expressed in a polite manner like your was.
