My pretty

Sparky thought I should post a picture of my bracelet. I was thinking about selling them for some extra cash.

How much are you selling them for? Brian's been pricing bracelets at $5, and a few people said that was a deal.

I dont know MZ, I was going to talk to you about it. I found a couple websites that specialize in this type of jewelry and they are a crapload like $40-80 for simple styles. I know they arent worth even a fraction of that much but tons of people are paying it. I figure I have about $10.00 into mine and had leftover stuff. I would want to be able to go out and buy the beads for each one and not be paying out of my pocket for them.

these would be super easy to make and they are $28.00

or this is $42.00

Yeah, I think those are a bit high. We figure that at a minimum we want to get a little more than twice the cost of the individual supplies. I figure that retail usually double the cost of the beads, and there needs to be a little compensation for time. Brian's figured up exactly how much each bead costs and the price of the wire he uses per bracelet, etc, and we're more than doubling the cost.

Wow Mz, I think Brian should be charging more than $5 for a bracelet.  I know at different craft/art shows I've been to, they are selling them for at least $15 a pop, sometimes as much as $20-$25.  A lot depends on the area where you're selling, but to me, his price is too low.  If you have any art & craft shows near you this summer, you should go take a look and check out their prices; I think you'd be a little surprised at what people are selling hand-made jewelry for.

If you can get a noted high end art studio, cafe or salon to allow you to sell out of their location you can get a lot more, too. My salon has earrings that run $40-$70 on avergae and people buy them like crazy, even though they aren't anything complicated or expensive to make.

If we get to the point that demand is higher than the speed Brian can make necklaces or earrings, we'll raise prices. For now, we want to have something that everyone will buy, and then hopefully they'll graduate to necklaces and sets which bring in more.

For the bracelets, he uses stretch cord. For the necklaces he uses bead wire and clasps. Really, I prefer stretch cord for bracelets, that's why he uses it.

I've always wanted to make that kind of jewelry. My niece makes them. Maybe someday. I got involved in making candles and then cards but I also didn't have any space. I will eventually have space after the boxes go away and will pick up on some of my hobbies again. smile

If you make jewelry any way close to how you make cards it'll be a success!! smile.gif
