Worst Concert You Ever Saw

What was the most dissapointing/ worst show you ever saw??

For me it was the Counting Crows in 1995. They played the Eagles ballroom and the sound was horrific. On top of that the lead singer was drunk, swigging from a 1/2 pint on stage, and it was like 200 degrees in the place. Not a show that the next big thing in rock and roll at the time should have put on.

Opening was classic alternative artist Alex Chilton. He was so mad and yelled "Why are you just standing there?!" at the audience. Its because the sound mix was non-existent and we couldn't hear anything.

Little Feat

I went to a Little Feat concert about ten years ago... They had added some lead female vocal and she annihilated the songs with her crooning voice. Argh! We left midway through the concert. I suppose I can't complain too much - I won the tickets free through a radio station (I may have been the only one calling in, for that matter).

Best concert would have to be Pink Floyd...

RE: Worst Concert You Ever Saw

I think so far, I'd say it was Wayne Newton this summer.  First, his tux was about 3 sizes too small.  Then, his banter with the audience was just so....shocking..I mean, he was really saucy in some of the things he said.  Colorful might be a better word than saucy..off-color is even better than that.

And..his voice is just not what it used to be.  I was dissapointed.  I mean..I was thrilled to see him, and I can mark him off of the "cheese trifecta" (Wayne, Tom Jones, Neil Diamond).

Has anyone else got an opinion on this? Or the BEST concert you ever saw?

I'd have to say the best and worst concert I ever saw was one in the same about 4 years ago.  It was John Paul Jones opening for King Crimson at the Murat in Indianapolis.  I went to see King Crimson and John Paul Jones was an added bonus, but I didn't know what to expect from him.  He rocked!  And we sat in the second row and could see everything!  But then Adrian Belew was sick, and it was obvious, so King Crimson didn't do a complete set, and you could tell that they weren't having that much fun.

I cannot say this is the worst concert ever.  Last Saturday Rita Coolidge was in concert at one of the Indian Casino's in the area.  I have always loved her voice and her music.  She was clearly not feeling well and was having difficulty with some notes.  There were many people who left the concert.  I felt terrible for her.  The fact that she remained on stage, kept at it trying only made me a bigger fan.  Now please don't tell me most of you do not know who Rita Coolidge is. ( My wife did not until she sang one of her eighties hits.  Then she said, ok now I recognize this song.) Two time grammy winner.  Just released some new cd's.  A true diva of the late 70's and early 80's.  She looked fantastic.

I can't say it was the worst concert I've been too but Heart was a victim of circumstance.  They played Indiana State in '82 and the opening act was John Mellencamp.  Jack and Diane was on the charts and his sister was a student at ISU.  Everyone was there to see Mellencamp.  When Heart took the stage I bet a third of the crowd left.  As the concert went on more and more people left.  I felt sorry for them.

I would have to say one of the best shows  I ever saw was the Bus Boys and the Stray Cats.  We were sitting in the balcony and you could feel it swaying.  It was so much fun dancing and singing along.  A great experience.

There are two shows that I have to say surprised me.  First, before we were married I took my wife to see Rick Springfield.  Although the teeny-boppers were screaming at everything he said and did he really rocked it out.  The best part of the night was when he set down with an acoustic guitar and sang a song about his father who had recently died.  Very touching.

Second, the Spice Girls.  My wife and I took our daughters to this show.  I was not expecting much but again I was very surprised.  They loved performing and you could tell.  My highlight was when they did a song sitting on chairs that were turned backward.  The were bare legged and bare shouldered giving the appearance they were naked.  That one got my attention.

Hey Ray925, I saw Rick Springfield with my wife as well, as few years ago in Ocean City, MD.  I also must admit it was a good show.  He messed up the lyrics a couple times, but it was a high energy show.  He also had a somber moment when he sang a song for his neighbors who had recently lost a child while on vacation.  It was wild to see all these 30 and 40-something year-old women rush the stage at the beginning of the show and stay there all the way through!

I experienced one of those best/ worst concerts as well.  It was 88? 89?  Cheap Trick was playing at the since demolished Poplar Creek Theater and the lead-off act was some guy named Simon F?  It's easy to forget his name because he was that bad!  The fans were ready for some good ol' garage style rock and this bozo prances out in a silver lamey trench coat and does some kind of glam/hair/rock thing.  He was booed off the stage half way through his set, cussing at the audience and throwing down the mike.

Luckily. Cheap Trick hit the stage and totally rocked.  All the hits, multi-necked guitar, and plenty of time to play since the first guy left some space.

Man, I'm old.

I have a similar story to ray925's.  I went and saw David Lee Roth's Skyscraper tour.  Poison was opening up for them and they were red hot at the time.  So Poison gets up there and they were fantastic.  It was great.  They take a break to get set up for David Lee Roth and I would say over half the crowd left.  Boy, was that guy mad!  For the life of me I can't remember the name of the arena they played, but it was the big one in Little Rock and I have never seen it so empty.  They held our graduation there and there were more people there that night then when Davie Lee Roth took the stage.  So sad.  It wasn't really that bad of a show, but after seeing Poison and how great they were, David Lee Roth was kind of a let down.  Oh, he tried hard enough.  He had the surfboard going over your head and all that, but it was cheesy compared to Poison and I think even he knew it.

a similar thing happened in milwaukee YEARS ago- must have been when I was still in highschool- but at Summerfest, Joe Walsh was opening for Night Ranger. The stage was packed for Joe Walsh, but practically emptied out for Night Ranger. I remember just wanting to see the first song of Night Ranger (7 Wishes) because MTV featured a concert of them on this tour, and that was the only half-way good song.

There are 2 I can think of right now. Both concerts were I believe the late 90's at Pine Knob which is an outdoor venue. The first was so disappointing. Heart- I love Heart's music, but it just stank! Nancy was not there, I think she had just had a baby or something. Ann sang all the songs really slow & it was hard to get into it. Ann was constantly out of breath. Many times I felt like the songs were dying! Later in the show Ann drags out her daughter who clearly doesn't want to be there. It was just BAD!

The 2nd is Eddie Money. He didn't really sound bad, but I just couldn't stand watching him. He was wearing extremely tight pants with his belly hanging over with a waist length jacket. And he kept trying to be sexy with all these moves! It was just making me ill!

LOL I saw Eddie Money a few years back play "for free" after a Milwaukee Admirals hockey game! I hear you on the belly and pants! It was like a freak show! Like watching Eddie Money's grandpa doing and impression of him!

Of course we know Rita Coolidge.  That lucky lady used to be married to the amazing Kris Kristofferson.  (Swoon...)

I wouldn't say it was bad, but my biggest disappointment was seeing Rod Stewart in the early 90's.  He was evidently tired of playing his hits the way he originally did them, so he changed them ALL up.  When I go to a concert, I want to hear the songs that made that artist BIG and I want to hear them the way they were INTENDED!

That leads me to my "Most Impressed" concert.  Don Henley!!  He is beyond cool.  He sounded just a fabulous in person as he does in my car.

My "Favorite" concert though was Van Halen's 5150.  I was a senior in High School.  Made the two hour trip to Big Nashville from KY,  bought the T-shirt, and proudly wore it the next day to school.  VH will always hold a special place in my heart because of all those senior memories that revolve around that album.

Real Pink Floyd or "It's basically just David Gilmour solo, but if we don't bill it as PF, we won't sell near as many tickets" ?

I saw DLR / Poison on that tour, too.  And felt the same way.  DLR and his (exceptional musicians) band set up drums in the middle of the stage, and did this long boring thing.  It was surprisingly a very unexciting show.  I've seen DLR other times, and he's been fantastic.  Hmm?

I will always love Rod Stewart, but he certainly has become lame in his old age.

Worst concert...  I won't mention the ones that were bad due to circumstances beyond the artists' control, because that's just not fair.

I hate to say it, but one that comes to mind would be Rick Springfield when we saw him on the Karma tour.  I have seen him live many many times, and have always enjoyed it.  But for some reason, he had a nasty attitude on this particular night.  I know his fans are totally annoying - I mean, he's an amazing rock artist, yet he always has to play for these 30 (now 40) something year old house moms, who don't understand music at all, and just want to scream over how cute his butt looks or relive their teen years or whatever.  It has GOT to be frustrating for him.  However, his attitude really stunk.  And he was super sloppy.  He was playing guitar leads all over everything, and at first I thought 'Oh cool, he's gonna rock out!', but he was just playing them at inappropriate moments, and it was very very sloppy.  His singing was sloppy, too.  He was missing half of the lyrics - just terrible.  I was so disappointed, and it actually made me nervous to see him again, although he's been fine ever since. (Yay.)

Another thing was that he only did 1 song off of the new album, "Karma", which I was totally into.  And I had hoped to hear more.

Aha, so that's why...  OK, time to revisit your friend's and / or relative's Night Ranger albums, then.  They are still making great albums.  Which reminds me, I was thinking of asking Riggs if he would mind me sending him some of their more recent stuff...

Gosh a couple come to mind. I saw Cheap Trick a few years back and they stunk! I had seen them years ago in Chicago and they rocked. But Robin's voice was shot. They did not sing The Flame because there was no way he could have held that pitch!

I, too, saw the Counting Crows- truly one of my faves- and they sucked. Drinking thing and just not organized.

Saw The Cult and could just say, see above reasoning. Alcohol DOES NOT help your stage presence!

Most disappointed- went to see Survivor open for Bryan Adams and get there and Fiona Apple was a replacement

The worst comcert we ever played was our first...it was an outdoor concert, 98 degrees and not an ounce of shade....Between nerves and heat stroke, the whole band was exhausted
