"Your" song from the 80's

What's your all-time favorite 80's song and why?? For me, its a bit of a downer, but I had a real bad break-up with my girlfriend from high-school (oh the drama, the big hair, the pastel colors )- but the DAY it was ended was the day that "With or Without You" was released as the first single from the Joshua Tree. If ever a song hit the nail on the head with its truth, it was hearing that song that day.

Photograph by Def Leppard is my favorite song from the 80s.

Why:  I would always play the album Pyromania when I was in my Maverick cruising and hanging with high school sweetheart and friends.  It was just an awesome time and good memories with that song.

This is SO hard!  I'd have to say "Keep on Loving You" by REO Speedwagon.  I can just remember it being played on the jukebox at this pizza place my family always went to, and it reminds me of just a simple time full of happiness, like all was right in the world.

Weird choice, perhaps, but it was just that one song that was always on and takes me back to that time.

It was one of 3..."We Built This City", by Starship; "I Can't Fight this Feeling Anymore" by REO Speedwagon; & "You're The Inspiration" By Chicago

I did listen to Thriller ALL the time, but I wouldn't consider it one of "MY" songs

*EDIT* OK I re-read the topic....so these were my all time favorite 80's songs (at the time) and anytime I'd hear em, someone in my family would tell me my song was on...but none of those really said anything about me. Again I grew up in the wrong generation to have that type of song be in the 80's. I was all about Transformers when you were all about Duran Duran, Genesis,  & Whitesnake. It's like the Pok-e-mon Kiddies of today trying to relate to The Ataris, New Found Glory, & Modest Mouse.

Just looking back at 80's music, It's more of a sound that sparks memories in me rather than a commentary on the time I really "lived" through.

If I had to pick a song from the 90's that would match the topic...It's one of 2 green day songs, "Nice Guys Finish Last", & "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)"

Ok here are two songs but there are so many!

Red Rider Lunatic Fringe from the vision quest soundtrack!

Ok here was my favorite song and video from the early mtv years when they had few videos so they played it over and over again! Back then the video seemed cool but now it pales in comparison to newer video production but the song I still love! See if any one remembers!

Rainbow- Stoned Cold

last one

Split Enz- I get frightened

That's because they're all songs that would be featured on your 80's Underground show!

Jeremy, Jeremy.  You forgot something.  You can't mention the underground 80's without mentioning that it airs on Sunday nights from 7 to 8 p.m. central standard time.  It would be like mentioning Jazz 101 without mentioning that it airs from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. central standard time!

There are so many songs to choose from.  I love "King of Wishful Thinking" by Go West.  But I can't say favorite songs without throwing "The Reflex" by Duran Duran in there.  (Even if my dad said it was titled that because it was a reflex to turn it off when he heard it.  No love for the Duran Duran there.  )  But my all time favorite Duran Duran song is "Secret Oktober".  Love, love, love that song.

alright, I'm LITERALLY laughing out loud right now.  I like the line by your dad!  I don't agree with it, but I LIKE IT!

Good catch on the show times, J.D. will be proud.

Sledgehammer. For no really good reason except that I played it into the ground and watched the video over and over, and it's really the only song I can think of that I've never gotten tired of.

Is Oingo Boingo considered 80's music? I still listen to their music...

RE: "Your" song from the 80's

Here is another Retro Thread!!

For me its The Promise by When in Rome.

When I met my partner he had come to Kmart where I was working and was stressed as we were short handed and I had not had a ciggarette in 7 hours  and was cranky and he came in and asked me what kind of music would be good for a date. .

I smiled and when I went to his house for dinner on the following SUnday he had bought me that whole CD and That is our song

Hm, there's a couple. First would have to be Sledgehammer, mostly because it was my favorite video.

Another would have to be the Heart of Rock and Roll. I remember my mom and her friend were hanging out when that song came on the radio (JD, don't even comment on the age thing), and I starting singing it and kind of just grew up with it.

But, I had a friend who assigned me My 80's song, she said part of it describes me well, and I guess it's always kind of stuck: Wild, Wild West by Escape Club.
