FIRST CD YOU BOUGHT

what was the first cd you bought/ or received as a gift? Do you remember?

I was adamant that vinyl would not die, much like I believed laser disks would be the wave of the future to redeem the shame of beta-max ownership. (LOL my dad had a LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP to a corner beta-max rental store in the early 80's) WHAT HOOOEY!!

Anyways i did not buy my first cd player until 1995, a full decade after cds began hitting the market. I think it was acutally Riggs who gave me my first cd, David Lee Roth's "Eat Em and Smile!"

My first two CD's were bought on the same day, nearly six months before I could afford a CD player :)

Whitney Houstons Debut CD, and Heart self titled 1985 cd (with WHAT ABOUT LOVE, NEVER, etc).

I paid $28 EACH at Kohl's Department Store!  That's like $40 today!  Whatta sucker I was!

Because of my dad's 70's influence (i.e., the CD played was a gift for ME, but was also my dad's new toy) my first CD was Traffic's Low Spark of High Heeled Boys.

But I don't discount the 70's.. Pink Floyd and Steely Dan are still two of my favorite bands... Now I listen to just about anything including, ack - don't throw things... country.

I would never throw things, despite having a fondness for country.

The first cd I got was Wilson Phillips debut cd (got it the same day I got my first cd player).

I think my first cds I bought were c&c music factorys "Gonna Make You Sweat" and a very little known group called "The Party", which consisted of several performer of the last version of "The Mickey Mouse Club".  They were pre-Britney Spears, pre-Justin Timberlake, and totally pop-bubble gum, but I was in love with them. They did a slightly cool version of Dokken's "In My Dreams".

Wow..that takes me back.

As I got a record player for Christmas, its been a good old fashioned 1970's album listening party at JD's ever since. Steely Dan, Rush, Queen all up from a box in the basement.   I could not believe how much the sound of the needle hitting vinyl took me back!

Ok, I guess I will have to admit this.  My first CD was Geraldo, you know the guy that sang Rico Suave?  I was going through a phase during that time.  It was hard to give up my cassettes and I still have 100s of them.

LOL,

You sir are a BRAVE, BRAVE man!

I definately would have lied and made up a different "first CD", you could have even justified it by saying Geraldo can't POSSIBLY count, because, well, it was Geraldo!

HAHA I remember when Riggs, myself and Jeff Roberts were in discussions about the direction of the station. Riggs was adamant " I WILL PLAY ANYTHING THAT THE PEOPLE WANT TO HEAR". And I said "I WILL PLAY ANYTHING THE PEOPLE NEED TO HEAR!" And all 3 of us said, at the same time, "JUST NOT THAT RICO SUAVE *&#%!!!!! NO ONE WANTS OR NEEDS THAT!!!"

I too had a difficult time believing that LP's and tape was on its way out.  So, my first CD's were Level 42 and Bruce Hornsby and the Range.

Like I said, it was a phase, in fact, I don't even think that I have that CD anymore.  What was I thinking?

I bought all of Stryper's albums on CD, and Donna Summer's "Bad Girls" -- long before I owned a CD player.
