Drama at the Bead & Button Show

Remember JD talking about this show? I've heard of stupidity, but really now... no.gif

Ohio woman carjacked downtown after show

An 84-year-old Ohio woman in town for the annual Bead & Button show was beaten and carjacked by a man after she stopped to ask him for directions downtown, according to Milwaukee police.

The woman left in her car from the Midwest Airlines Center, where the bead show is being held, and stopped at N. 1st and W. Wisconsin Ave. to ask for directions.

A man got in her car and said he would drive her where she wanted to go, according to police.

The man drove to Washington Park, near N. 35th and W. Vliet St., hit the woman, took her purse and drove off in her car, a gold Chevy Malibu four door with Ohio plates.

Police said the woman was struck but did not require medical attention.

She was picked up by Good Samaritans who took her home, police said.

The only description that police provided this morning of the suspect is a black male wearing a blue shirt and black pants. The woman described the suspect as being in his 40s to 50s.

I know - and she probably didn't even realize the degree of risk she was taking. It wasn't very smart of her to let a stranger get in her car, either, much less drive it. Bad news all the way around.

I just REALLY get angry when I hear these stories about people doing stuff to the elderly. I mean it's just so unbelievably cowardly and low. Just barely a step above LITERALLY going around taking candy from babies.

Big tough inner city dude ripped off Grandma. Big man.

Bring back the mafia, at least they had some standards.

I wish we had something like Memphis - the Blue Suede Brigade is around for people who are visiting to provide assistance and help maintain security for tourists. It has proven to be a real crime deterrent factor in the downtown Memphis area where tourism is concentrated.

Are you serious?  They were federally subsidized?

I had no idea!  I thought they were just a community group.

That started in NY didn't it?  I seem to recall when I was a kid there was a big uproar because some people viewed them as vigilantes.

nah I made that up. sorry, that was bad no.gif. but they do rely on donations to exist, and in these times I imagine less people are willing to donate their money to a lot of causes....

I read that the city was trying to revive the Guardian Angels in Milwaukee, though I don't know how they intend to fund it.

We had Guardian Angels here in Saginaw, but once the drive-by shootings got to be an every day occurrence, they no longer exist.
