Toaster Oven. Got one?

I'm curious how many of you use toaster ovens.

I never had one until about a year or so ago. I found I relied on it more than my regular oven, although I'm sure that's more about the fact I'm single than anything else.

When I got to NC I knew I wouldn't be here more than a year or two so I decided not to bother buying one. Now, even though I may be moving back in a few months I think I'm changing my mind.

Since I've really started exercising and watching what I eat, I actually try to stick to serving sizes as stated on the package.

Today I made a sandwich and a "serving" of french fries. It was 11 fries hmm.gif (I won't even bother getting into a discussion about 11 fries being a serving for maybe a FOUR YEAR OLD)

It really seemed stupid to be heating up that big oven for 11 fries hmm.gif

nah I had one back in the mid 90s that I never used even then, so I gave it to a room mate who always used it.

I have one at work and we rarely use it....actually I should say I am the only one that uses it and its been at least 6 months since I have. It takes almost as long as a regular oven and kind of a pain to keep clean.

We used to have one but it was worthless. We talked about upgrading to a better one but voted against them all together. So until my husband decides he wants one again, we are cool without. We have a microwave, oven, sandwich maker, George Foreman grill........

I agree on the keeping it clean, mine at home was trashed after a year, which I don't understand. I rarely made anything that splattered.

But I did find that it heated up to the desired temp a lot faster than the oven did.

Another real benefit to it I found was that it seemed to cut cooking time nearly in half.

I gotta say, I'm truly surprised by the responses so far.

I fully expected everyone to say they couldn't live without their toaster oven.

I also have to admit I'm not surprised at all that no one has declared my awesomeness and offered to send me a free toaster over tears.gif

I use mine often. I agree with the whole cleaning thing. But it is good to make pizza rolls, reheat leftovers (because you don't always want to heat your leftovers in the microwave), reheat soft pretzels, blah blah.

But this was a close second in my voting:

Jeremy, I think you're awesome and want to send you a FREE toaster oven that I'll buy this weekend and ship out to you asap.

 Ooooh, that's a definate negative isn't it?

They have NO insulation and the entire thing gets as hot as the temperature you set it for.

When you think about it, it's kind of surprising they don't just burst into flames with all the wiring and stuff I'm sure is inside.

I had to giggle when after I posted and I read the posts that came in while I was typing one and you said no one was interested in sending you one.

We don't have one, BUT I WISH SUBWAY WOULD GET THEIRS FIXED SO I COULD HAVE A SUBWAY PIZZA AGIN. Sheesh, they've been without one more than they've had it over the last few months. GET A NEW ONE AND QUIT TRYING TO GET THAT OLD ONE FIXED.

Ok, I feel better now.

But, no, we still don't have one.

That reminds me of my other favorite use of the toaster oven.

I'd make a sammich, all nice and piled high with turkey and stuff.

Then I'd put the cheese on the top of the pile, put both halves in the toaster oven and warm that puppy up until the cheese bubbled.

Mmmmmm Mmmmmmmmm. Best sammich ever.

I see someone voted to send me a toaster oven! clap.gif

If you don't already have my new address you can just drop me a PM and I'll be happy to give it to you! smile.gif

I bet you $5 it was either you voting for yourself or Web using a proxy to avoid actually having to send you one. rofl.gif

Well, it wasn't me voting for myself. But the web angle sounds plausible.

We'll know in a few days. If I don't get a big box delivered with a toaster oven in it, I can blame web!

I had one here at home but never used it, so I took it up to the cabin thinking I might get more use out of it up there.  Haven't used it up there either. hmm

I wish I had a toaster oven. I've thought about buying one. And then I look at my kitchen counter and figure it would probably be better to do without. Can iPods toast bread yet?

Hey JR - did your toaster oven arrive yet?

If not, maybe it got lost in the mail.

If you didn't get it, watch your mailman and see if you can catch him eating toast. Then you'll know for sure what happened to it.
