Cool new FireFox feature (if it works)

Well, my excitement for this feature has been dampened somewhat by the instability it may be causing for my computer, but given the crash I'm not sure if it's a FireFox issue or a computer issue.

They have a an add-on available called fast dial.  It let's you have as many as 24 web sites up on one page.  The neat part is they update as often as you'd like.

So for example, I have the NOW PLAYING PAGE, THE QUEUE, THE FORUM, and three other pages loaded.

If I want to take a closer look at them I can just hold the left mouse button over the one I want to look at and it brings it to full page so I can read it easier.

If I want to open that page in another tab I just left click on it and it does that for me.

It's really a neat way to keep an eye on multiple changing pages without zipping around the web looking at them all, or having a ton of windows open.

Here's a screen shot...

Ooh, that would be helpful. I think I'll try it out.

I have mine set as my homepage, so it opens as soon as I start the computer.  But here's the problem I have with it.

Everytime it reloads the pages it causes a short pause in what I'm doing, it's just a matter of a second or so, but like when I'm typing here in the forum, the pause will stop my typing momentarily, and when I want to continue I have to actually left click back in the text box or my typing doesn't enter itself.

The weird part is, even if I don't have the multi-screen tab open, it still updates itself and causes the pause.

I guess that's so it has the most current info when I do open it.

But I have it set to refresh every minute.  I guess if I set it to every 5 or 10 it woulnd't be a problem.

Tried it, don't like it. I put up the now playing page and the request queue. Even when I made them as large as possible and the only two cells on the page, I couldn't read any of the text on the pages. That makes it useless to me.

Not that I'm trying to talk you into it, but did you try the holding the left mouse button over the window you were trying to read?

Here's why I like it.

I can see on the now playing page what album is playing, I can see the cue and can tell if there's a dedication coming up, and I can see on the forum if there are new posts.

By left clicking on the window it brings it closer to you so you can read it, which is all I need to do for the now playing and the queue, when I let the left button go it returns to the little window.

For the forum, if I see there are new posts I can click on the little window and the forum opens in a new tab so I can read through them, OR, if it's only one or two threads that are new I can do the hold the left button down thing to see if they are threads I want to bother to go read right now.

Yeah, I held the left button down. But it defeats the purpose that I'd want it for. It'll drive me nuts not being able to read what's there unless I click on it. I can click on a link just as easily.

I have an addon called "reload every" that I like. It will reload a page at a set time.

For example, when Twhirl isn't working, I can open Twitter in a tab and then have it auto reload ever 5 minutes. Then I can occasionally click on the Twitter tab and see if there is anything new.

I've looked at del.icio.us before but I'm so used to having my bookmarks right on the Firefox toolbar, its hard for me to switch away from that. Its just so darned fast and easy having them right there. I just try to remember to backup my bookmarks occasionally.

Ooh, I never thought of Twitter, that's a perfect one to put in one of the windows.

Web, I have my delicious bookmarks right on my toolbar.  It's part of the Firefox addon.
