I Am Not A Traitor, But....

My volenteer work for a little local broadcast radio station in my neighborhood has begun.

Basically it involves sitting in a tent, drinking beer, and handing out info & merchandise to people who come up to say hello, or ask about one of the promotions the station is running- at this point, due to limited availability of the goodies, give to those who really do listen to the station (kinda reverse marketing in a way, shouldn't they be reaching out to those who don't know about the station??)

But this station had a small little tent set up at the summerfest grounds & me and a couple other guys sat around for 4 hrs on saturday night manning the thing.

In that 4 hrs, maybe 6 people who knew about the contest came up & got what they needed to enter.

Maybe 20 other people came up. Of these 20, squonk and mrs squonk came up to hang for awhile, my buddy mot and his wife came up to hang before going to Tom Petty, and one of the other guys had 3 people come up that he knew.

The remaining 13 people asked the following questions:

"Is this the gate to the bus?"

"Can I get 2 chicken burritoes?"

"Wherez Cheap Trick Playing?"

"Does anyone have a lighter I can use?"

"Can we use that back table to change our baby's diaper?"

"Wherez Cheap Trick Playing?"

"Wherez Cheap Trick Playing?"

"I never heard of this station, are you giving away free stuff?"

"Give me a goddamn bumper sticker!"

"Why don't you guys play jazz like you used to? I hate this station now!"

etc etc

oh and a little jewish lady in a red boa did a little dance for us, tho the only music playing was that within her head.

I'm hoping the next outing, kinda a jazz at the park thing, will be a bit less entertaining.smile

oh yea- one guy about my age was an absolute riot and we had a ball. Another was a bored kid who left early, the hr lady was there for a bit- nice enough person.

lol one guy tho, is the morning dj for the station- 1/2 a rastafarian 20-something wanna be who rode up on a bicycle that was duct-taped together. no lie. I think he was used to kids working the tent telling him how cool he was, that he is indeed a legend, and not just in his own mind etc. me and the other guy just had nothin really to say to him after a bit, just gave him one of the beers, and continued our conversation. He thought he might have to go introduce one of the bands that night (Steel Pulse?) but wasn't sure, so meandered off.

We had to close up the tent at 10 pm, and at 10 pm this guy was nowhere to be found, and his bike was still chained up in the tent. THat didn't stop us from closing up the tent tho real good, so he'd have to dig for his duct-tape bike a bit if he really wanted it.smile
