Anyone own an Ipod, if you do what do you think of it? Any problems with it? I have have just ordered mine, so any feedback would be appreciated!! Thanks
I got one of the mini's for chirstmas, I only have a library of about 180 songs, but it downloads fast & I can take em anywhere. My only gripe (& it's not necessarily w/ iPod) is that the music files are player specific. Stuff I downloaded from Napster(Before the shut down) works on any player, but stuff downloaded from the itunes website ONLY works on Apple's player, stuff downloaded from the connect website (like all the freebies from McDonalds) only work on thier player...etc... So I have to have at least 2 browsers open to play all my music, ant the stuff from connect won't go on ipod.
Also You can't transfer songs from computer to comupter too often. My Step Dad has downloaded over 500 songs from itunes...But I can't put them on my machine or ipod because of the copywright protection & number of times you can transfer a song....
Metallica Screwed up the whole peer to peer sharing thing, so MP3's are sucha hassle now to obtain, but if you have a huge library, or can find mp3's not affiliated with a certain player, the iPod is a great gadget
Thanks for the info Mocrzy, I had heard about the differnt file issues, but thats not a major concern for me, as I will probably be using I-tunes to download stuff, and I mainly still use cds so im just going to be converting them to go on it. I really appreciate your help though. thanks
It's an extra step, but what I usually do is download my singles from itunes into one folder, then burn it to a rewritable CD. Then I reread it into the computer as a standard MP3 file using MusicMatch.
That way the file can be used anywhere and has no limitations on numbers of burns or how many times it can be moved.
As for the ipod itself, my ONLY gripe is the shiny metal back, there is no way to avoid that eventually becoming VERY scuffed up.
But I used to have an ARCHO'S jukebox, it was the size of a portable hard-drive (about 3" x 8" x 6") weighed a ton, went through 4 AA batteries like they were nothing, took forever to navigate through the songs and sounded like a truck rolling down the highway when it was working.
NONE Of those problems exist with the ipod, it is FANTASTIC!
Out of 10 stars I give mine a 9, it could have gotten a 10, but I'm not real pleased with it's shuffle mode. The standard stuff, it tends to shuffle the same songs too much, and once you've started playing a specific playlist, it's very difficult to get it to start playing on shuffle. It should just have a button or menu option for shuffle but it doesn't (atleast my model from a few years ago doesn't).
Thanks, Mr Riggs, for your info, I had read a few reviews saying that the back gets scratched really easily, so im going to buy a protective cover for mine, when it gets here, thanks for your info, I will let you know what the shuffel is like on a new 4th gen model, when i get it.
Just got my confirmation e-mail, so theres no going back now, Its quite excting for me, as I have worked on Apple Macs all day since i left school but i am about to own my first bit of apple technology!!! I know that sounds sad but im a bit of an apple freak!!!
