Ham Radio Fun

This is neat . . . this guy built some Morse code paddles out of Legos:

He's sending the same thing three times. Each time it gets faster He's sending:
CQ CQ CQ DE M0HSW K

"CQ" is an open call for anyone to answer.

"DE" means "This IS"

M0HSW is the guy's ham call sign.

"K" Means "I'm done sending, you can answer now".

This is a commercially made paddle set:

The paddles just make contacts. The actual code elements are then controlled by an electronic keyer. For example, holding the "dit" or "short" paddle will make a string of dits as long as you hold it.

This is a voice QSO (conversation) between two hams.

The remote operator is:
GW6NKG
BARRY BROCK
GARDEN COTTAGE NO4. HIGHFEILD MANOR. HAVERFORDWEST.
PEMBROKESHIRE . SA62 4DA
WALES - U.K.

The local guy that is recording it is:
MW0CXW
TOM GRAY
4 WESLEY PLACE, TRECWN
HAVERFORDWEST
WALES - U.K.

So, its not a real long distance chat since they are both in the UK.

This is more of a typical voice conversation.

This guy is in the UK talking to another ham in New Hampshire. They are doing what most hams do . . . talk about their ham gear.

This is a ham in WI talking to a ham in VA.

Funny . . . I don't see any cheese in his "shack".

This one is a longer, 11 minute video. This is using a ham radio satellite. This guy is using a small handheld radio only running a couple watts to talk through the satellite. The satellite rebroadcasts the signal. He's using an antenna mounted to a tripod so he can point the antenna to follow the path of the satellite as it goes over.
