Freeze-Frame and MySpace

All of you know that I hate the MySpace.  I'm not a fan of any of the social networking sites other than this one right here!

Anyway, the FFR MySpace page has been somewhat cursed since the beginning.  I've mismanaged it, offended people who helped run it, it's essentially just been a disaster.

Personally, I do not believe it fills any purpose.  We get NO new listeners from it.  With the exception of Ghost, who I actively sought out.  But getting her wasn't easy, I had to deal with a lot of negative return emails accusing me of spamming people when all I simply did was send them an email that said "I noticed on your profile that you like all kinds of music, you may enjoy our stations then, blah blah blah".

Literally, we have had probably no more than 50 new people come to our site from the MySpace page, and of them only one became a member.

We were getting a lot of bands submitting music for awhile, but that has completely died off, and quite frankly 99% of the stuff we got was just horrible.

So long story short.  I want to shut down the FFR page and be done with MySpace once and for all.

If anyone disagrees with that decision and wants to run the page COMPLETELY independant of me (I want nothing to do with it anymore) let me know via a PM by tomorrow morning and we'll arrange to have the username and password turned over to you.

Otherwise it's dead.

I just have to believe we can come up with a better, more effective way to get some new listeners and forum members.

MySpace seems to be dead in the water.

Meh, I'm indifferent to it. I'd like to shut my own MySpace page down, but then there's some people I'd alienate if I did that, and the whole reason I got it was to stay more connected.

My own personal social networking craze has died down. The whole reason I liked them was so I could know what's going on in my friend's lives and easily message them, but most of my friend's pages are as stagnant as mine is. I wish all my friends would get blogs instead.

Blog, Twitter, Email, FFR, Skype. That's really all I need. Oh, and I guess a phone too, although I despise it.

Exactly.

It's a good thing I don't own a gun.  I'd go through a lot of phones.

You know, I've never wanted to do a blog myself, because I truly think "why would anybody care what I'm thinking".  I mean that seriously.

But I have to say, I really enjoyed reading the blogs on MySpace of all my friends.  Even if it's just day to day stuff.  In fact those are some of the best.

I still read yours now and then.  I have to admit, it's not every day.  But then, a lot of times when I do read it I'll catch up on ones I missed.

Maybe at some point I'll join the blogosphere after all.  I definately find it more intriguing than MySpace.

Rank your friends, tag me!, you're my pet.  I just feel too much like a 13 year old school girl no.gif

I have a mySpace but only because I wanted to check on my son's page whenever I felt like it. No pictures. No rankings. Nothing. I have 3 friends: My 2 kids & Tom (or whatever the automatic friend dude's name is).

That's just the thing too!  People get offended.  You shut it down then suddenly everyone you know is emailing and saying "what'd I do?  Why'd you drop me as a friend?  I told you'd I'd get you that money I owe you back to you by next week!"

I agree.  I just like knowing what's going on in my friend's lives.

And I use Google Reader, so I don't have to visit a bunch of websites to read everyone's blog.  It's just like reading email.

I have you and Web on my SAGE Reader for FireFox.

I don't know if anyone else here does a blog or not.  If you do and you want another reader, let me know smile.gif

I very rarely go to my my space page anymore.

Yeah, I know... people get all sensitive about that sort of thing. Makes no sense to me, but then again I'm pretty hard to offend. It would be a happier world if people didn't take EVERYTHING so personally.

I'm not easily offended either, but I do seem to have quite the knack for OFFENDING though, and I'm not even sure why. It certainly is never intended. I guess maybe sometimes I just don't think things through well enough to envision how someone else might perceive my actions or words.

Or, maybe I know a lot of sensitive people.

Probably a mixture of both.

I had an old roomate who used to entertain himself in front of the mirror by doing a before / after look of his belly.

He'd stick his belly as far out as he could and say BEFORE and then suck it in as much as he could and say AFTER.

He was actually really good at it, looked like he was playing with about 25 lbs! But it was scary how often I'd come home and find him doing it hmm.gif

HEHEHEHEHE! I know the feeling. Every time I have a performance evaluation at work I hear some variation of the same thing... "You are very articulate, your technical skills are amazing, your dedication to your job is amazing, your willingness to work any shift and help your co-workers is fabulous... BUT you really need to be nicer to the people you perceive to be "slower" or less talented. Do you understand what I'm getting at?" Me: "Yes. I rock, but I don't like stupid people." "Yes. And you should try to do something about it." "Really? Hmmm... Why? I mean, wouldn't it just make sense to have the stupid people try being smarter? Wouldn't that be a more efficient use of company resourses rather that trying to make me more tollerant of stupidity?" "Uh.. you have a point there... but uh... well... consider it a growth opportunity."

I'd like to say that I'd take it over but who am I kidding? I can't even make it to my own page! I really need to delete mine. Anyone I'd care to really have on my page is here. I think I just liked personalizing it with pictures and stuff.

Doesn't matter to me either.  I keep the station's links on my Myspace page, hoping if someone stumbles across me they'll drop in here...I have no plans of deleting the links or my page.  And I promote it through bulletins from time to time or surveys that I occasionally fill out.  Most of the bands I have as "friends" on myspace wouldn't be interested here....sorry, but they're heavy metal and the fit just wouldn't be right.
