As far as kite flying goes, the weekend was bust. We had to much wind Saturday, even more yesterday, and its still howling today.
My friend did make it down and spent the night with us and it was good to spend time chatt'n with him, but not much flying happened.
Saturday was the best flying day and I took a little video thinking it would be better Sunday.
Saturday, a guy from Kansas City had a HUGE windsock up. It was 35 ft at the opening, 185 ft long, and weighed 145 lbs. He had big kite lifting it and it was hooked to 2,000 lb test line and anchored to the back of his full sized truck. The line broke. Many other kites ended up wth broken lines and had to be chased down. One that I know of was totally lost. It went over a hill, into a corn field and never found.
The video I have is not much. Its still a big windsock, but smaller than the one that broke the line, Its also a catepillar sock, and finally "sled" up 500ft lifting my little 10ft windsock, "wind wheel" and my new dog windsock. I just got the dog this weekend.
I left the video pretty big size so its 72 megs and its here.
No, they are not supposed to. They are made to just roll around on the ground.
I made a friend later with that purple caterpillar. One of my friends yelled at me to "Watch out!" and as I turned to see what was going on, that caterpillar was sliding across me as it was going by. I just barely caught the end of its tail as it went by. The owner was VERY happy I caught it or it would have been a LONG walk to go get it. They were taking it down and his wife had hold of it but couldn't hang on and she lost it.
