Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know that gas here in Saginaw is already starting to climb in price due to the hurricane in Texas. I just passed 4 different gas stations on my way home and it's $5.25 a gallon!!!! I heard that in Lansing, MI it's at $5.95 right now!
If you guys need gas in your cars, I'd really advise getting it now before you're faced with these kind of prices.
I was going to get gas earlier today but three times I went by, there were lines at the station I like.
I just now went out and filled up both cars. It was 10 cents more than from earlier today, but we're "only" at $3.60 now. I needed gas in the van but the car had 3/4 tank but I went ahead and filled it up too just in case.
Our governor said last night there is no reason for gas to be this high yet. I hope the stations get nailed for price gouging. I haven't been out yet this morning so I don't know if all the stations have gone up like the four I passed last night.
Web got gas for $3.60 yesterday. We haven't seen gas that cheap here in Saginaw in over a year.
I had recently paid $3.48 gas. For some reason the Murphy's in the area were at that price even though everyone else was still in the $3.55 range.
But according to the news EVERYONE in the area has gone up to $4.50 - $6.00. Tell me that's not gouging.
Why when prices drop for oil do they claim we have to use up everything in the tanks and the pipelines before we see relief at the pump, yet before they even know what damage they might have experienced from this storm the price at the pump skyrockets? Just one more example that these loser do IN FACT price gouge.
I'm sure when January 1 rolls around we'll be reading that all the oil companies had record or near record profits again.
I can't believe you and Web were getting gas for less than I've been paying here. This past Monday gas was $3.95; Tuesday it dropped to $3.87, Wednesday it was right back up to $3.95. We haven't dropped below $3.85 since oil prices first began rising way back when.
So we dropped a whole 8 cents for one day when oil fell to $100 a barrel.....whoopie!!!
Yep, we wait weeks to see any relief at the pump, but the minute oil takes a jump in price, they are out there right now raising the price at the pump. And usually the gas in the tanks has been there for a few days....they didn't just get a delivery of gas.
We have a high road tax too that's supposed to pay to repair our roads, but you wouldn't know it by the condition of some of our roads.
We filled up last night. The gas stations were hectic! I think we paid $3.89. This is all just crazy. We did get phone calls about the Lansing prices. So just when are they gonna step in and actually do something about them? Talk is cheap

This is just plain sick. I remember being in Arkansas when 9/11 happened. There was a rumor that oil refineries were burning and there was a run on gas. There were lines like the 70's and of course they raised the prices. The gov of AR got on the gas stations and if the people saved their reciept they could get a refund of the difference.
How does the saying go? What goes around comes around?
We were at 3.49 Wednesday, I forgot to go back out last night when it was 3.69, it was 3.79 on the sign, but 3.85 at the pump, guess the sign changer had not gotten to it yet. This afternoon on my home from a wedding shower, it was 4.79!
This is why when the day comes that I move back to Wisconsin I will look for work FIRST and an apartment SECOND.
I want to be within walking distince of work if possible, less than a mile at most. MY dependence on oil could be largely broken if I can pull that off.
Yeah I hate that I am 20 miles from work. I might even bike it if I did not have to take Emily to and from school. Plus there is no quick and safe route, I would travel over bridges and interstates. But alas, with the housing slump, I can't move!
The stations that were charging over $5 last night have came down to $4.39. I think the governor's threat of going after price gougers had the effect it was supposed to.
This really pisses me off. the gas in the tanks at the station were bought at the old price so its the stations that make the money, with the oil companies of course.
I didn't fill up, these high prices are typical for California. I had 3/4 tank like web, so I am going to ride it out.
It is a tragedy what happened with Ike but the fact is refineries in the Houston area supply a lot of gas to the central and eastern states. The lack of refineries in this country is being highlighted with this hurricane. More refineries spread across the country would help alleviate the supply problems when natural disasters occur in any region of the United States.

Needless to say I'm all for building more for us!
I agree Ray, we do need more refineries. There is an artificial shortage created every time one is closed because of fire, weather or changing blends.
