Edwin Hall to be sentenced

KSNW-TV
Hall pleaded guilty in July to the murder of 18-year-old Kelsey Smith.

OVERLAND PARK, Kansas, September 16, 2008 -- The man convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering an Overland Park teen will be sentenced Tuesday.

Edwin Hall pleaded guilty in July to the crimes against 18-year-old Kelsey Smith.

Due to the plea agreement, he can only be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Yep... that is the whole story. This sicko grabbed this girl from a Target just a couple miles from where I work, took her over to a park in Missouri, and savagely raped and murdered her. He confessed to the whole thing upon arrest. They had him on the store's security tape forcing her into his truck. Yet, he gets to cop a plea. It kinda makes me ill. doh.gif

Don't get me wrong, the rest of this guy's life is going to be horrifying. If I remember correctly he's only maybe 22, so he will be everybody's "little bunny". Additionally, Kelsey's father is a police officer so I'm sure this guy will be not be high on the "good guy" list for the guards.

I'm just having a really hard time with the plea deal. The store's surveillance cameras showed him stalking her through the store for like 20 or 30 minutes before he grabbed her in the parking lot. She was apparently unaware that she was in any danger until he grabbed her. It was broad daylight and in a good neighborhood. According to his confession, it was definitely his plan from the beginning to murder his victim. She was apparently dead within 3 hours of being abducted.

what makes a kid go so wrong to murder at 22? I mean you can almost see an old person doing it...all the crap they have been through but thats still a kid for most aspects.

They were talking about this on the radio the other day, and everyone is wondering the same thing...why the heck did phill kline decide to let him plea out? Apparently they had a bunch of DNA evidence, as well as other evidence linking hall to the murder/rape, but for some odd reason they decided to let him...it's a little shady if you ask me.

"It's Phil Kline" is probably the only explanation necessary. Everything about that guy is shady. Hall left his DNA all over the place, they had him on video stalking and abducting her, and basically an immediate confession.

It's just unconscionable to me that they even dignified a plea let alone granted it.

Seems to happen that way, especially when they know you are a rapist.

I am sue they let him plead out so they didn't have to bother with a trial. It was the easy way out. "You say and sign you did it and we won't kill you." He is going to be there a long time and I doubt he will survive.

I found something that said that they let him plea out because they didn't want Kelsey's family to be put through the grusome details of her death and the events leading up to it. THAT I understand. I wouldn't want to know things of that nature...but I'd probably just not sit through that part of the trial. That's just me though.

I understand mercy for the family, but her dad probably has the full scoop. Who knows if he would have shared it with his family, but being a cop he has access to all the info if he wants it.
