Valentine's Day

A shout out to all of you on this Valentine's Day.  Although I do believe this holiday is concocted by the greeting card people, it's still fun to be all lovey dovey and junk.

Heck, I'm not even wearing all black this year, which is my normal v-day attire.

So..Happy Valentine's Day!

Yes, Happy Valentine's Day to all our loved ones.

I too believe that this day is basically an early marketing scheme.  I personally don't need a designated day to show and tell the ones that I love that I do love them.  BUT, there are some people that I know that love and only show it on this day.  So, I guess it works for some.

This might also be a good day to give someone a call that you haven't talked to in awhile or might have had a falling out with.  Forgiving shows you love.

Well, the wife thinks that she only got a card this morning but when she gets to her office this afternoon there will be a dozen balloons with a bear basket and an invitation for her to go to lunch with me and the kids on her lunch break.

I pulled the embarrassment stunt this year. We have a Barbershop Quartet in town that goes around Serenading on Valentines day. My wife is either going to like it or kill me. I also bought the roses and she has been collecting Teddy Bears from me for 10 years now.

I actually got surprised this morning too.  I had a single vased rose and a card on the table waiting for me this morning when I got up for work.  Still something there after 12 years and 2 kids later.   Its a good thing but we do try to be this way throughout the whole year.

Way to go Sparky.  She will probably be embarassed but will love it and be the envy of the day.  Great idea.

One of my friends had a quartet serenade her then boyfriend here at work.  He was totally red, but it seemed to work.  They got married this past October.

I think the quartet will be so sweet. Way to go Sparky!

Is it just me or do we have somebody doing subliminal messages in the songs requested today? First we had Goodbye to you, then Run Run Away.

I was thinking sorta the same thing.  They aren't my requests.  I haven't heard mine yet.

I like to take my lunch break and a couple hours after work to randomly drop by grocery stores and count the number of guys in the 15 items or less line...

That's great to hear she liked it.  My Valentine's day was great (other than working).  The boyfriend got me season one of Golden Girls (I know Riggs, you're wondering why it took me so long to get it), and a 3 CD set of Love Songs by Kenny Rogers.

If that doesn't scream twisted love, I don't know what does!

That's what I thought.

Congrats on the car JD.  So..you had the CAR OF DEATH, hey?  Then you must have had my old '84 Pontiac 6000.  That car was a nightmare.

What made your car so bad? Did you have to "Fred Flintstone" it everywhere and use your feet to get it going?

I had a car like that once! You had to put a floormat over the hole in the floor so your feet would'nt fall thru or get gassed to death.

Hey thanks for the congrats :)

The car of death was my 94 ford escort which I just turned over 100,000 miles on. All of a sudden there were all sorts of horrific noises beneath it. Turns out I needed a whole new exhaust system, which includes this weird flex-tube stuff. THe total job would have cost $250. I had had enough. I used that $250 towards the downpayment on what is now JDs car of joy! There's no bleeding eyes and suffication problems anymore due to the bad exhaust!

This is taking this thread in a different direction now, but speaking of old cars that wouldn't go....I learned to drive on a '78 Dodge Aspen station wagon.  It had about 120,000 miles on it and it would stall if you turned at an intersection and tried to accelerate to fast out of the turn!  My parents had the engine rebuilt at that time, and that made it marginally better....I still see an Aspen or a Volare (it's equivalent) every once in a while and marvel that it is still on the road.....

Balloons have deflated except for the milar ones, candy is almost all gone, flowers are slowly wilting, new car is dirty and Valentines' day is now in the past.  Hope everyone had a good one.
