Winter Prep?

I was just thinking of stuff I want to do in prep for winter. I made a list, because usually I'll forget a few of these. I hate winter, but I think being prepared as much as possible helps one deal better.

Here is my list.

A good fall cleaning and dusting.
organize closets and drawers appropriately- dummer stuff stored, winter clothes out.
wrap up air conditioner
oil for lamps
a good moisturizer.
Close all exterior windows
humidifier out.
stock up freezer
freeze dry veggies
portable heater out
plastic mat to put boots on.
case o wine?

To do:

Prep for winter prep.

I really should make a list. I usually just do it as it comes along, and then we end up putting off some things, like putting plastic on the windows, all winter.

But right now, I don't want to start thinking about winter yet.

I'm not sure what to expect this winter. I'm not in a cold drafty house. It does look like the outside door will be a problem though. Not sure what to do about that. Not like we can put plastic on it hmm

We do need to do a good cleaning

borrowed in-laws carpet cleaner- need to do that

get some more jeans. Some bit the dust last year and I didn't bother replacing

I have lots of moisturizer but can never find a good one

need to clean humidifier and get that ready

yep we should get a mat too for our boots now that we don't have a mudroom

If I don't just get new windows (which is my plan) I'll need to do the plastic thing. Probably need to stock up on fire wood and check the oil lamps. Need to also check out the truck, change the wipers to the heavy duty snow movers... oh yeah... get the snow blower serviced too.

Oh dang... add "fill the kid's propane tank" to my list. I get hit with that every winter.

My slow crawl towards the winter months doesn't involve too much. Just time. It depends what mood I am in plus the weather.

A thorough house cleaning, mainly while the windows are still open (at least for part of the day anyway). That way the house airs out after such cleaning. That includes the scrubbing of stuff, sweeping out the garage, changing the filter in the heater, pull the humidifier out, make sure I cleaned it well before I put it away and that I have at least three sets of filters on hand.

Yard clean up. Putting the planters away if the flowers and vegetables are finished growing. Put the umbrella away. A final yard mowing, followed by the lawnmower clean up and storage. This year I need to get the last of the wood from the tree I had cut down all cut up and stacked. Or better yet, after it is cut, have a friend pick it up so she can use it this winter. The tree was cut down at the end of December and I still have some wood remaining.

There is also always that last real good cleaning of the car. I used to give the car a waxing in the fall to help protect it through the winter. I don't think I have done that in a couple of years.

I just weep.

Well, I do some prep.
The Patio:
The low voltage lamps get covered.
Furniture in to the garage.
Wack bushes
Property in general:
Wack bushes
Cut lawn
Dump some stuff on the lawn (this week)
The cars:
Oil changes for the two going in to storage
Make sure the covers are cleaned
Air in all tires.
Considering keeping the 60 in the air on stands
Painting the interior of garage, quick.
In the house:
We are painting three rooms.
Clean filter on furnace.
Clean dryer hose
Calk windows (seal and peel)
Put away the fans.

I have chapstick year round. As a matter of fact, I have some on right now. I use it much more between September and April though.

Same here.  Carmex is part of my morning makeup routine.  Screw lipgloss, gimme something that works.  If I need color, I put a touch of Burts Bees shimmer on over the Carmex, which gives me just a touch of color.

I don't even want to fill up my son's propane tank. I keep trying to get him to move to civilization. no.gif Every year in the middle of the winter they run out of propane and of course money too.

I'll tell you what, how about you get my next fillup? The tank is currently topped off. I spent a ton of money to do that too. I shouldn't need anything until January. That is when they seem to "stop by" and fill it. I won't put the heat on until at least November 1st. If I can go longer, that is good. With my heat and hot water the only things that require propane, it will be a little while before a fill up is necessary. And it won't be empty when they fill it. That will give you time to save up.

Without fail, they hit me right around mid-December. Just after Thanksgiving and just before Christmas. I'm hoping things go a little differently this year, but I don't count on it.
