I read on a webisite that "Current estimates have one in seven, or well over 44 million people in North America alone, who have one or more tattoos"

so I was wondering how many of you guys if any, have got tattoos and if so what and where are they?

I have one at the min but I want a some more done soon, I have been a big tattoo fan for years.
Mine is a tribal design on my right arm but I want it expanding into a bigger design!

This thread is a good one.  I heard those stats too last week while in my car and I thought of the group and wanted to start one on this topic but then forgot about it.  Thanks for starting it. 


Yes, I have one.  Its on my left outer calf and it is a modified version of the SOBE geckos.  Each gecko represents my two kids and have their blue eyes.  The S that is made up of the gecko bodies is more pronounced and represents my Self which also happens to be the initial of my first name. 


I actually have wanted one since I was 18 but didn't get mine until 4 and a half years ago.

I don't have any tattoo's.  I wanted one when I was younger, but never did get it and just don't care to have one now.  I had a contract with a small modeling agency (not that I got anywhere with it) and it was strictly forbidden.  I like some tattoo's, but there are some that are just awful.  I know a girl who has the Aerosmith wings at the small of her back.  It's a pretty good size one.  It looks pretty cool, but I just couldn't do it. 


My sister has one of a heart surrounded by barbed wire in her private area.  I will never forget the day we went to visit my grandmother at the catholic daycare where my grandmother worked.  My sister saw a picture of Jesus with the Sacred Heart and said "Wow, Grandma, that looks just like my tattoo that I have right here!" and she pointed to her private area.  I thought the nun that was there was going to have a stroke.  I don't think my grandmother was far behind her.

When The Green Bay Packers won Superbowl XXXI, I was intent on getting a big green "G" in this crest design that I came up with, on my right shoulder. When I found out that a tiny G alone cost $200, I said forget it. My mom was willing to pay me the cost of the tatoo to not get it. (Of course I never made her pay). But in hindsight I AM GLAD I DID NOT GET IT!!!

I had always wanted one since I was a kid but my 80 year old neighbor talked me out of it. He showed me pictures of his tatoo when he was younger. It was a beautiful Hawaiian Dancer. When he turned 80 so did the dancer! Kind of decided I didn't want a wrinkly tatoo drooping from my skin after that.

Oh yea- a lot of my mom's uncles had them WWII era ladies on their arms too. But they looked similar to the vericose veins on their arms by the time they were in their 80s. Is that a selling point of tatoos?? "Don't worry, the blue that we use will simply look like another vericose vein on your body when you're old. No worries!"

I have thought about that side of things, but I feel that as long as your tattoos are in places that are pretty much covered by a shirt then Its not an issue, I dont think that when im 80 I will be walking around shirtless that much.

I have 2 tattoos, well 1, well 2 that are 1 total tattoo.


The chinese symbols for Love and Happiness on my lower back.


Got them 5 years ago, and I've wanted to get a few more since then.

I've never been a fan of tatoos, but if they can be hidden by clothes I think they're ok.  And when they have a specific meaning to the person that helps too.


I think it's sexy when a woman has a small tatoo on her back or hip or something, but when it's covering the majority of a back or arm then it starts seeming a bit too bikerish for my taste.

It's so funny the subject of tattoos came up, because I was out on business all day yesterday minus a brief hour at night, and the co-worker I was with saw me bend over and thusly saw my tattoos, and she was wondering why I would get one on my back where no one would see it.


I got it there because 1) If I got it in a place that was always visible, the folks here at work would have a bit of an issue and 2) my mom would have killed me. 


It is the little be of rebel I have that I can show off when I feel like it, but can also hide it when necessary.

My mother came to visit me in Idaho from Pennsylvania shortly after I had gotten mine 4 years ago and so I asked her what she thought of them.  She has mellowed out alot in her older age and she said that modest ones are ok with her.  I told her "good" because, I then showed her mine on my calf.  She loved it.  In fact, she had commented that had always wanted to get one but my dad was totally against it.  I was floored.  Especially when she told me that she wanted to get a rose and where she wanted to put it.  Needless to say, I never mention my tattoo to her anymore.

My mother got her first tattoo at the age of 58!!!! it is only a small bird on her shoulder but how shocked was I when she told me, she had always been dead against them when I was younger and wanted one!

I have only 1 tattoo


It's near the tip of my index finger on my right hand....where I stabbed myself by accident with a sharp pencil when I was 7 or 8....


that hurt enough for me to never want to get the real thing done


Plus...on the whole getting older thing...My grandfather has a Marine Emblem on the underside of his right forearm. He got it when he was in WWII. It always looked appropriate, even now as he approches 80...the problem is now, it looks like a big blue blob...


I couldn't imagine getting something like a sports team emblazoned on my arm...logo's change (my luck I'd get one & them team changes cities the next week w/new mascot/nickname), teams fold, leagues fold...Geez...imagine a guy with a Washington Senators Tattoo...sucks for him twice...


Also I have seen people get brand logos tattooed...McDonalds would be safe, cuz they aren't going anywhere for a while, but who'd want the golden arches on their arm (besides Ray Kroc I mean). i've seen photos of men with the XBox's "Halo 2" logo tatooed on thier arm...ok...looks Awesome now...and the game is popular, but Pac Man was huge in it's day, but I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a Pac Man Tattoo NOW no matter how much I loved the game then...Even with as obsessed with transformers as I am, I couldn't see myself at 75 with a faded Autobot Symbol on my arm...I'd hope I'd have grown out of it by then (though at this point, the only way I'll be able to stop Buying TF's is if Hasbro & Takara(TF's in Japan) stop makin em...I'm so screwed)


Tattoos are permanent, & I just can't handle it if I can't change it later...I 'll stick with my pencil dot...

I agree with you on that, getting team names, brand names, games and partners names and stuff like that tattooed on you is not a good idea as far as im concerned.



but im now considering the pacman tattoo, very retro!!!

I stand corrected once again...but judging by that tattoo & the pastey white skin...I'm guessing that Tattoo hasn't seen the light of day in MANY seasons...nor the love of a good woman in ANY season...I hope to god it's ballpoint pen & Highlighter markers for his sake....

I know I'm resurrecting an old topic, but I've really been considering getting a tattoo lately.  Or two.  My cats are my children, so I would really like to get a paw print.  I also find a lot of meaning in the infinity symbol.  My problem is, I don't know where to put them!  I've thought about getting one just a little lower than the waistband of my pants on my lower back, but that also seems to really be the fad right now, and I don't want to regret it later.


I've tried henna before, but I just haven't gotten adept enough at it to make anything other than a series of blobs.

My Step Brother Held a tattoo party last saturday, & my stepdad decided he wanted to get another tattoo. His first one was a red dragon on his upper arm he got years ago (pretty faded), The he got a bigger Red dragon that was holding a stylized Harley Davidson Shield on the other arm. When Looking at both arms the 1rst dragon looked so small compared to the second one....so at this party he decided to beef up the tat on the first arm.


the final tattoo came out looking very cool, but I'm still not sure about his choice...the dragon now appears to be walking down the gangplank.....of the Stargate!


He got the big ring, & the power supplies, and even has the blue water "event horizon" thing going on....looks awesome...but turns it from badass dragon...to mini geek....


I'd do something similar mind you....but i'd be like "yeah I'm a badass...I got a tat..." then when they ask me what is it...."Oh it's a decepticon symbol from Transformers"...and they go from "cool" to "he he....geek"....couldn't handle that

I worked with this guy years ago who had a buddy attempt a tatoo on his shoulder. I don't know what the original design was supposed to be, but they had to end up making it Jabba The Hut from Star Wars because it was just a huge blue blob on which they were able to create a couple of eyeballs. It was the worst tat I ever saw, it looked like a huge blue birthmark. I thought it looked more like a road-kill Grimmice from McDonaldland than Jabba The Hut.

Stevie - Sounds awesome but why SOBE.  Have you ever lived there?  And why a geko?


Ultimo - I couldn't see it


Mo- my ex-husband hand some kind of lead pencil incident as well and has the same thing in his forearm.  That just doesn't come out.


I have had henna tatoos.  They are okay.  But they don't last.  My only lasted a few days.
