Debate last night

Any of you watch? What did you think? Who did you like? Who do you think won?

I'll tell you I was switching back and forth between the debate and baseball game, so I didn't see it in it's entirety!

I didn't watch it either. Watched the end of the baseball game, then caught up on some tv shows I recorded earlier in the week.

I think they both did a wonderful job - I could not say that about McCain and Obama....

I have to agree. Both were very good in their areas of expertise and made you really listen and think about what they had to offer. Too bad we can't have the best of both worlds...

We had it on but it didn't have our full attention. Listened a lot more than watched.

I think they both spoke well. I don't believe I heard anything new though. It was more of a rehashing of what was said in the other debate. So I don't think it was anything to sway anyone unless the person watching has not been paying attention.

At times I felt it was a smiling competition. When I was watching they both had huge smiles on their faces. But i suppose that is better than grimaces at what their opponent said.

I couldn't stay with the last debate -- For me, BOH was over the top, and as forMcCain, he was not captivating enough... I'll try to give them my time of night again next week...

It's hard for me to say, and maybe my expectations were just too high for Palin, but I thought Biden did a lot better. That's not to say I agree with his positions, but I think he appeared more prepared to defend against any claims Palin made than she was against claims he made. Of course, we all know that just because they say things that doesn't mean it's true, so I guess I'll have to hit factcheck.org today and see where the truth lies.

I will say this, I was fed up 2/3'rds of the way through and turned it off.

I THOUGHT this was a VICE Presidential debate. The ONE debate where we would learn about the VP candidates. It seemed more like they were there to defend each of their Presidential candidates rather than tell us more about themselves other than that they agree with their running mate.

Palin did try to keep going back to what she had done as Mayor and Governor, I don't recall Biden every really talking about what he had done. But even so, I didn't feel it was working for Palin.

i have to say that the "maverick" cliche was getting really old and she should have quit while she was ahead because biden finally came back and really lit into it..

I agree DS. I think everyone here knows I'm Republican. But I'm tired of hearing what a maverick McCain is and I'm ready to stop hearing soccer mom comments from Sarah.

I also thought Bidens little "bridge to nowhere" shot early in the debate was rotton. It was clearly something he had in his pocket waiting to use and I think it came across as a cheap shot.

Also I thought, that the questions asked were not answered.... it was like they just listened to the question, and mostly went on a tangent about other things.

Palin seems like she's answering a question at Mrs. America. "Ms. Palin, if the goverment gave you a blank check, what would you do with it?"

"Well, I'd do what any red blooded hockey mom would do... buy frozen pizza, cook it up and have everybody over for pizza and coca-cola!"

Okay, she does have a "hot" factor.smile

Sarah's a fan of drilling in Alaska. And why not? How else are you going to have five kids?

I watched it... twice as a matter of fact because I was working while the rerun was on and I hadn't changed the channel.

I agree with the comment that very few of the questions were directly answered. Honestly, I think Biden did a better job content wise, but Palin had him way beat on personality and handling of the whole thing. She didn't look flustered at all, even when she was tap dancing around a question. If you watched Biden while she was talking, you could see him fighting the "Joey the Shark" thing. He so wanted to throw out that famous wall of words, it was about choking him at times. Still, he did a good job of reeling that in.

It would have been nice to hear them talk about their own thoughts and positions more. Funny thing is that when they did address their personal positions, they were actually for the most part agreeing with each other. Very few differences there.

Now I just heard the women who was asking the questions was bias because she was black and seemed in favor of Obama. I didn't see that or even think that. Did anyone else?

I watched the whole thing.

As far as who I think did the better job, I think Palin did a good job, but I have to lean more toward Biden. I do think Palin did A LOT better than she was expected to. I believe the Democrats were really waiting for her to screw up big time and they didn't get that.

I think Palin needs to back off the "Maverick", "American People", "Hockey Mom", etc stuff now. We've heard it and its getting tired. Yes, I think its good to keep reminding people that she's "one of us" but yet you don't have to do that five times in an hour and a half.

It may be risky, but I wish Sarah would come out and admit that she just doesn't know or hasn't had time to form her opinion on every single issue yet. I'd rather see her stay with the honest and up front route than turn into a spinning politician. I would like to hear her say "I'm still fact checking and researching this and haven't formed my own conclusion yet." rather than dancing around, and avoiding the question.

For Biden, the way he talks about himself in the 3rd person REALLY turns me off.

I have to say last night was the most I've ever really watched and listened to Biden. I really don't know much about him, but after last night, something about him makes me uneasy. I can't put my finger on exactly what it is yet, but I just get the feeling that there is something about him I don't like or trust. I do know that when I feel this way about someone, I usually find out later that those feelings were correct.

In conclusion, I think Biden did a little better job at the debate, but it was not enough to sway me to Obama.

I didn't even think about the race thing, but I did hear that she has a book out, or a book coming out with stuff about Obama. That seems like a conflict of interest there to me.

think maybe him being in and out of the senate for half his life might have something to do with not trusting him...?

the one comment that really made me shake my head was that he was adamant about global warming caused solely by the activities of mankind and didn't want to discuss that there could be a handfull of cause and effect going on...
