What's for dinner this evening?

Okay, so it is late Friday afternoon. I defrosted some pork chops, but I don't really feel like cooking. The thought of going to the Mexican place for dinner has crossed my mind. Anyone having anything fun, exciting, good? I may be able to be tempted to go another route.

Okay. So far I see the pattern. Signs point towards having someone make dinner for me. Now, the next question is can I get someone to buy it for me too?

If you come to CEC, and you can fake you are 5, dinner is yours!

At 6:30 this morning I sliced up some onion, took 4 1/2 lbs of short ribs and put em in the crock pot with a Dave's rib rub and Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce. It will be falling off the bone by the time I get home. hungry.gif

Yeah... I'm stuck at the office for a bit. No clue when or if there will be dinner.

Mema, sometimes that makes an excellent dinner, especially when you're tired out and don't know what else to have.  I love grilled cheese sandwiches with tomato soup.  lick.gifsmile

How do you make your grilled cheese?  Ever tried baking them in the oven?  Love it that way....bread gets nice and crispy, golden brown, without burning.

I do it the boring old stovetop on a skillet method. Never contemplated using the oven for that. Hmm... perhaps I shall try that next time. Works great for garlic cheese toast. smile.gif

I line a cookie sheet with aluminum foil, butter one side of each piece of bread, put the cheese on the unbuttered side, stick the other piece unbuttered side to the cheese, bake at 400 for about 10-15 minutes per side.  No mess to clean up afterwards either.

Sounds like a good plan. Easier to throw a piece of aluminum foil in the recycle bin than to wash the skillet. I like it! nod.gif

The bank where my wife works does the free gift with a new account thing. A while back, they had square stove-top flat skillets. You just place the skillet over the burner. She bought one and it does a really good job of distributing the heat evenly. It makes nice grilled cheese.

I suppose the reason I never thought of using the oven/broiler for that is that I'm generally an immediate gratification kind of girl. The skillet method is much faster. I could see me doing the oven method if I was making home made soup... which I do at least once or twice a winter. I could even see me going the step of buying specialty bread for that... like bakery sourdough or something.
