OH! Shouldn't prices be dropping soon?

I was just thinking.  Everything from postage to groceries went up in price several times in the last three years always because of the high cost of fuel.

Now that gas prices are down to $1.95 locally, when do you think we'll start seeing those increased prices returned to normal?

Anybody?  Anybody at all?  confused.gif

You are trying to be entertaining today, aren't you JR? Falling prices? Funny. Maybe they are falling around WalMart. You know they have those commercials. Although, I can't say the last time I saw one of those commercials.

And who has gas for under $2/gallon? Not me, yet. I paid $2.21 Monday morning only to have it be $2.19 when I arrived home Monday night.

We've hit as low as $1.89 around town Fuzz. I paid $1.95 two days ago.

What about anyone who heats their home with oil heat? Has anyone experiences big price drops? I have propane. I have no idea what the price of that is doing now. Guess I won't know until my next fillup which could be January. Unless I call and ask. Yeah, probably not going to do that.

Since gas prices are going down, I assume (hope) propane is too so I'm holding off as long as I can until I call them to come fill my tank again.

They were blaming EVERY price increase on fuel costs.

Even plastic bottles and stuff because petroleum is used to make them. They were saying we couldn't fill potholes this summer because the stuff they use to fill it is petroleum based and too expensive.

Heck, half the local delivery joints doubled their delivery fees because of gas prices (Yet they state on their take-out menu that you should still tip because the delivery fee doesn't go to the driver, so I'm not sure how they figure that should go up because of gas costs anyway).

I WANT TO START SEEING SOME REDUCTIONS RIGHT NOW!!!!

I paid $1.85 with morning with my $0.10 discount.

I expect to be paying $4 next week when we head up for Thanksgiving. :/

Good luck with that whole "right now" thing. You know it doesn't work that way. We know that to be especially true in the whole gas thing. We know the way they go up and then the way they barley come down. Any company that locked in fuel prices when they were high (out of fear of them going much higher) is now stuck with those contracts. That is part of it. Anything that is seasonal will correct itself next year. Imports will remain high because overseas prices are just catching up and starting to level off.

And I'll bet that the airlines won't drop fares because fuel prices are down. Their thought, "The holidays are here, we are paying less in fuel costs and this is our chance to really make some money."

I think the last price I saw for gas around my town was $1.72 which should put it down around $1.65 on the Missouri side.

Don't know about the rest of you, but I haven't seen any other prices dropping along with the gas prices.

someway, somehow I think this is supposed to be a 2nd attempt at an economic stimulous. People are only paying 1/2 of what they were for gas this summer, are they taking that money that once went to gas, and buying more things at stores? I know I'm not. no.gif

I'm not either JD because Consumers Energy raised their prices for electric and natural gas.  They're now getting what I'm saving at the gas pumps.  Oh, and I just saw tonight that my water rates are due to go up another 20% in December coupled with another 25% increase in sewer rates in January.  Yippee, it's gonna cost me more to flush the toilet.

The local natural gas company announced that after expecting a big increase in heating costs this winter they now expect a reduction in the average consumers heating bill over last year.

So I guess we're lucky, at least our utility is passing on some savings.

Tulsa has the lowest gas in the Nation. We dropped to 1.67 a gallon the other day and are still there

Yeah, Milk has skyrocketed.

So has fish. I LOVE fish and it used to be a reasonably priced item. Now it's almost too expensive to justify making at home. hmm.gif

Yeah, they blamed food prices on $4 gas.

Gas is under $2 but food has not gone back down.

I'll happily make a bet with you that if gas prices go back to $4 food prices will rise again sighting gas price increases as the reason.

YOu're probably right, especially if there's a year or so before the gas prices go up again.

I NEVER thought we'd see gas at $1.50 again, but now I wonder. I mean, those are pre-2000 prices!

Makes me wonder if people who had been carpooling or telecommuting more will return to driving. Of course, that will put more cars on the road and cause more traffic.

I never thought we'd see gas for less than $3.  I figured once they had got it to $4, we'd be extremely lucky to see $3.00 again.

I'd like to slap myself for being so freakin' happy about only spending $1.55/ gallon today over in Missouri for gas.

It really does seem hugely unfair that everybody raised prices because of transportation costs but aren't lowering them now. Seems to me that gas hasn't been this low in more than 6 years around here. If I remember correctly, when I bought my house gas was around $1.73 / gallon.

JUST SAW GAS AT $1.69!!!

And oil settled at under $50 a barrel today! We could hit $1.35 at some point!

We should PROBABLY be mad, because there never was any actual shortage. Those darn futures traders just ran up the price and for years funneled billions of dollars of US money out of this country and into the middle east angered.gif
