Turntables

Are turntables coming back or did they ever leave?  Does anyone in the forum audience actually still have a turntable that they use?

When I went over to my sister in law and brother in law's house on Sunday their 13 year old daughter was listening to music and was amazed at how big the albums were etc.  Turns out that they got their turntable out of storage, hooked it up, and have been playing their old 33s and 45s for awhile.  I have a Technics turntable with a diamond head needle but its up in the closet.  Now my kids are hounding me to hook it back up and play some of my 33s and 45s that I have and that they have seen.

So, I was wondering if anyone else here listens to records using a turntable?

I received a turn table for christmas and have been getting records ever since. They are starting to pop back up in music stores in town. For a holiday I received a nice hearty dose of Police and U2 albums!

I also located John Coltrane's A Love Supreme on vinyl! I have been spinning these albums at home nightly! If I could figure out a way to hook up a record player to work with the broadcasting software that the station uses, I would so buy a portable record player and feature album cuts!! But in this age of MP3's I don't think there is a way to do this, short of me holding the microphone to the speaker! LOL NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!

I don't have one, but I would love to have one.  I still have all my old records and would love to listen to them again.  There's just something about vinyl.

Yea back when cds came out, SUPERIOR DIGITAL SOUND was touted, but until I got this record player, I didn't realize how much I missed the drop of the needle & this hiss. The hiss could be drowned out by simply CRAKING IT UP, DUDE!!

When I was about 14 I aquired a Magnavox stereo reciever with a built in 8 track and turn table. It had 15 inch wood grain floor speakers at a rumage sale. It was the best sounding stereo I have ever had. I have it my parents basement all hooked up an ready to go when I visit.

We still have ours hooked up although it rarely get's used. I like the convenience of clicking a button to listen to mp3's and my wife has pretty much gone country and only listens to new CDs when she has time.

We probably would have put the turntable in storage a while ago, but when I built our entertainment center, I made a special pull-out shelf for it and not much else would fit there. Because of that reason, we just leave it in and hooked up.

Once in a while, my wife will get a few albums out on a weekend afternoon but not very often.

Wow--Living Legend--but you gave me a thought.  I going to dig it back out.  I have never been able to get rid of the vinyl.

I had a turntable that was the last remaining part of a stereo system I got for my birthday back in 1984, but 3 years ago when we moved it got damaged, and I never replaced it.  I recently gave all my albums to a friend of mine who collects them.

Recently I went to a reunion at my college radio station, and it was funny to see current college students in the training studio learning to spin the vinyls.  They don;t use them anymore for the actual broadcast of the station though, but back when I had my radio show, we used them as much as we did CDs.  Every once in a while I would forget to set the turntable to the correct speed, and you'd either hear the chipmunks or a snail singing.  Sometimes though, it was neat to do that on purpose!  Ah, college radio....
